Dick & Willie Passage Rail Trail

More hills than expected. We rode from parking lot at Fisher Street to the sports complex and there was a lot of street/sidewalk riding. Glad I had my ebike.

Tobacco Heritage Trail

Don’t ride when wet

January, 2025 by terriannjma_tl

This is a very lovely trail with some elevation gain and loss, but very quiet and remote. The key is do not ride this trail if there has been any substantial moisture! We rode this trail when there was snow and ice on the trail as well as melt water and the trail was like riding through quicksand. Very difficult! Maybe during the summertime when it’s dry it would be lovely but not today. Riding on the snow and ice was also treacherous as there were packed down frozen tracks from a truck that uses the path for maintenance and access to surrounding areas.

This is a connector trail, connecting uptown to the Dick & Willie. It’s paved and kept clean, there is a nice bathroom at the parking area.

Well paved- beautifully kept trail. Had a great morning riding into downtown Lynchburg , where we stopped for a nice lunch. I would definitely ride this trail again.

Mill Mountain Greenway

e bike

July, 2024 by gibsontw

Mill mt is a great e bike trail due to big climb, I like to come back down the road due to downhill speed and roughness of the old paved road that makes the trail surface, makes a nice loop and can be extended out to the parkway and around the roanoke mt loop that is closed to vehicle traffice which has beautiful overlooks.

Garden City Greenway

Decent Trail

June, 2024 by trikeyeah

While this trail largely follows Garden City Blvd SE, there are some spots on it that are scenic and away from traffic. It mostly consists of a steady climb to the end of the trail, but the first three quarters of a mile is relatively flat with one climb at the quarter mile marker. The trail is plenty wide enough for passing and is paved in its entirety. There is a small park on the trail and park just off of the trail behind the elementary school. Because it is an off shoot from Roanoke River Greenway traffic is lighter than the main greenway. There is shade on about half of the trail. The biggest concern is on Wednesday’s it’s garbage day so there is usually garbage cans and other refuse waiting to be collected.

Huckleberry Trail

We have been on a lot of rail trails, scenic yes... but not for the average rider...

Roanoke River Greenway

We rode this a 2nd time and it is so nice. Love the artwork. You ride right by Black Dog Salvage. Mostly level, not crowded. You can see the STAR from trail.

Riverwalk Trail (VA)

Love this trail!

This trail did not disappoint (except it ended). Danville is to be commended!! Smooth well kept pathway! We started at The Danville Farmer’s market, rode the cobblestone streets to the Main Street Plaza, down to the trail which zips along the river back to where we started. Then we went across the trail bridge and followed the trail down river to the end at the airport. The trail is relatively flat until you pass through Angler’s Park! Then you have some real hills to get up!!! We were thankful for assist from our e-bikes. But oh, what a lovely ride!! We followed the trail back to the Farmers market - refilled our water bottles and headed back across the bridge to finish the other side of the trail. This part is lovely even though you are behind business for some of it. And there is one part that is not complete (i.e gravel - though someone painted the big rocks which was very nice!) We road (with some overlap) about 20 miles!! We will be back!
