Suffolk Seaboard Coastline Trail

very nice, worth doing again

October, 2025 by k6rpwp4cxc

Nice paved ride that takes you into Driver. Couldn't believe we saw Jim equipment 3 miles in that had kettle bells, a bike and an elliptical plus other stuff. 4.5 miles there is a bike station for air, tools to fix your bike.

Not Best for Hybrids/Gravel Bikes

September, 2025 by evada

I found it a bit squishy and bumpy for a hybrid. But just fine for a mountain bike.

Driver to Pughsville and back

August, 2025 by gardener1298

A nice 7.2 mile round-trip, paved, shady trail with very friendly people. Could probably use more parking, but we rode our bikes during the week and there were plenty of spaces available. The tree roots are tearing up the asphalt a bit (making for a bumpy ride). The trail was very clean with no garbage; it's obvious there are people who take care of it.

Roanoke Canal Trail

Too Rough

July, 2025 by cherbini

We did this trail 7.26.25. It is not maintained and is only suitable for mountain bikes. Rocks, roots, overhanging branches (some with thorns) and dangerous downhills with sharp turns at the bottom. Add to that sewage plant smells, insects and little signage. Look elsewhere.

Suffolk Seaboard Coastline Trail

Nice trail / Needs more parking

May, 2025 by gardener1298

Did the northeast section, Suburban to Nansemond. Have walked it before, but this was the first time biking. A nice, easy, flat, paved trail with plenty of shade. The only problem is the parking. Only a few slots and all but one very skinny one was available.

Tobacco Heritage Trail

Don’t ride when wet

January, 2025 by terriannjma_tl

This is a very lovely trail with some elevation gain and loss, but very quiet and remote. The key is do not ride this trail if there has been any substantial moisture! We rode this trail when there was snow and ice on the trail as well as melt water and the trail was like riding through quicksand. Very difficult! Maybe during the summertime when it’s dry it would be lovely but not today. Riding on the snow and ice was also treacherous as there were packed down frozen tracks from a truck that uses the path for maintenance and access to surrounding areas.

Roanoke Canal Trail

great trail for a quick ride

October, 2024 by bermudamann

fun short trail with mountain bike if you're travelling on I-95 to break up the drive. Has some flowy S curves and small hills and minor roots. Scenic spots along the river and amongst the trees.

Skewarkee Trail

It is a nice scenic trail.

I enjoyed the walk it is very scenic and it has plenty of greenery to view. I am from up North and enjoyed the trail. It is well marked and easy to follow.

Suffolk Seaboard Coastline Trail

Perfect place to practice longboarding/skating

February, 2024 by drew.jones10

I went on a Wednesday around 1:00pm so there was no one there. The trail is perfectly paved and plenty wide.

Roanoke Canal Trail

roots, rocks and ruts

November, 2023 by sebowen

We road this trail in early November. We started at the Weldon end. And it was a bit challenging for this 66YO who had about 70 miles on the new e-bike. There were several areas through the ride that were narrow and Rory. Also the leaves were crazy. I would definitely recommend using caution if you do not have a mountain bike. On our way back with about 2.5 miles left I hit a sharp turn howling downhill and and leaf covered. I wiped out pretty good but other then bruises and sticker vine scratches I was on and so was the bike… nice trail but need some TLC.

Suffolk Seaboard Coastline Trail

The trail path is paved. This would be a good trail for training to do longer trails on a road bike. It is a safe, clean, and beautiful trail through nature. The trail is approximately 3.5 miles from end to end per my "igsport IGS360" bike computer.

Horrible Bike Trail

September, 2023 by mmccarthy51

Husband and I went for the first time and it was horrible. We started biking a few weeks ago. Did not like the bike trail here. While I understand it’s a nature trail it is not for any bike. Roots sticking up out of the ground 6inches high. Your not supposed to ride bikes on the nice flat trail but we ended up doing just that. Trails for bikes are not marked well either. My husband flipped his bike on one of the hills. Will not be going back for the bike trail that’s for sure.
