South River Greenway Trail

nice, but short

February, 2020 by mlrad5755

This trail is nice for a short walk. It will be much nicer once they complete the expansion phases.

Good trail, wish it was longer.

Rivanna Trail

Great paved trail for wheelchair users

August, 2019 by laura.hart18

Park at Riverside park. Head toward the river and follow the trail (it only goes one way from this point). It’s paved and not too hilly with lovely views of the river along much of the path. We turned around at the overpass as the neighborhood began to look a little sketchy at that point. But by the time we got back to Riverside Park, we had completed a nice 3 mike loop.

Great for a short in-city ride!

If you live in Cville and want to go for a nice short ride in town, you can't beat this one! Beautiful landscapes, nice hills, fun!

The longest non-road paved section is at Riverview park at 2.1 miles. It is level. Beyond that you will need mountain bike or go on streets.

John W. Warner Parkway Trail

Nicely maintained, short, too many traffic lights

June, 2018 by lirpakooz

Nice wide paved trail but short with too many traffic lights. At least 5 lights. Entrance is not well marked. We parked in the McIntire park, close to the YMCA, which had a very hidden path entrance behind the picnic pavilion across from the sports field, which actually led us to the high school. Then we rode down the hill on the sidewalk which finally landed us on the trail. A better place to park might be at the north end, at the Covenant Church of God, 1025 Rio Rd E, Charlottesville, VA 22901 which is near and Exxon if you need drinks or snacks. Runkeeper said it’s 2 miles from end to end, starting at Covenant Church to the end at someone’s driveway along Rt 250, across from the Memorial on the corner.

Rivanna Trail

disappointed

April, 2018 by tom.joy

We started in Riverview Park and had a nice ride north for 2 miles then the trail turned to a path that you needed a mountain bike to navigate, so disappointed we returned to our car. We were excited to read about a trail around Charlottsville but very disappointed to learn that it wasn't a reality.

East Fork Trail (WV)

pretty trail for an autumn hike

October, 2016 by saheatherly

I hiked this trail with my pup today (October 2). The trees are beginning to turn and the river is lively. A really pretty walk, all in all. I did have to cross the stream 3 times, and honestly could not find my way around this, although the trail notes say to stick to the east side of the stream. The bank was just too steep.

I was glad a I had on long pants, as the nettles are still green and stingy on parts of the trail.

Rohrbaugh Trail

Hellish

September, 2016 by silverthetis

Keep your wits about you. Rocky, steep and various terrains along this trail that never ends. Hiked it and survived, only to fall immediately asleep when getting in the car!

Lumberjack Trail

Nice walk

September, 2016 by silverthetis

Not scenic in a landscape sense, but a steady, flat walk for at least 3 miles in. Occasionally muddy and rocky; you do see bits of "lumberjack history" along the trail.

Lumberjack Trail

Rough hike on lumberjack

August, 2016 by sportyg2009

This is four miles of slippery rock damp hiking..shared the trail with several horses..not a fun hike.

DelFosse Trail

Unimpressed

September, 2015 by srman

The trail seemed to be rarely used and neglected. Five solid miles of spider webs. The only good view was from the trail parking lot overlooking the vineyard. Absolutely the worst hike of 2015.
