Tobacco Heritage Trail

OK. The paved portion in nice; the rest of the trail: ugh! Atractive woodland setting, but poorly maintained. Frequent sections were marked by deep sand and loose gravel. Very tiresome to navigate and ride. And not a tobacco plant within miles. LOL

Tobacco Heritage Trail

Healthy bear population...

June, 2020 by richard.ware

Started from Pamplin in the morning of June 12. Half a mile in, we spotted someone on the trail running away from us. As it turned so that we saw it in profile, we realized that it was a bear. Turned around double quick! Will not be going on this trail again.

Powhatan Creek Trail

Beautiful!

June, 2020 by myoungfighter

Hi. So, I tried this trail for the first time.. starting from the elementary school.. I loved it!! It was perfect.. the scenery is amazing.. and to get to see some history along the way, it was a great feeling.. There are some hills in the beginning, very doable.. and some turns.. and 2 bridges, that are lovely.. I will say, I did not notice any mile markers, so it was confusing to tell when I approached Greensprings, as I was hoping it would be obvious, so I could turn around and head back.. but I couldn’t tell.. so I just turned around when the watch said 2.4 miles..

Newport News Park Bikeway

Shady almost all day

June, 2020 by susanfleenor

Nice 5 mile ride under the trees. Take the turn for the George Washington site about 1/2 way around the loop. From there you can hop on a paved road with many historical markers. If you take the fork that leads to Yorktown you can continue less than 2 more miles to the Yorktown National Cemetery and all the way to Historical Yorktown and the beachfront. Pack a lunch and eat at one of the picnic benches in the grassy area by the water. Public bathrooms available. Total ride was 17 miles round trip with the Yorktown cruise through the historical homes.

Cannon Creek Greenway

Good for a quick ride or cut-through

A very smooth path that has a couple of road crossings. If you cross Brookland Park Blvd then you can extend your ride. Great if you want a path to calibrate a new bike, power meter, or teach someone.

Tobacco Heritage Trail

beautiful trail!

Such a pretty trail! Highly recommend. And it was virtually people-free. On the unlaced section it was super quiet, minus the bird sounds. Very peaceful.

Trillium Trail (Sandy Bottom Nature Park)

Way to many tree roots, but overall a quite and peaceful trail¿¿

Virginia Capital Trail

Noisy but pretty Trail

October, 2019 by akbender

We were in the area and enjoyed the weather as it was a beautiful fall day. Flat, well paved and tree lined. Disappointed that cars and trucks were consistently going by just a stones throw off the bike trail.

Worth the Travel

Drove from WDC to Richmond for a 60 mile training ride and loved the uncongested trail with excellent surface. Very infrequent stops available for restocking fluids or food, so pack accordingly. Will definitely come again.

Trillium Trail (Sandy Bottom Nature Park)

Difficult around the back

July, 2019 by wirenut7171

This park has several trails that allow bikes but the main loop is the longest and the most difficult with the 2nd half being skinny, winding, and full of roots. It was very challenging and not one I would recommend for inexperienced bikers or children. I was a little surprised that it was even designated for bikes there. The park itself is beautiful.
