Metropolitan Branch Trail

Great resource in the heart of the city

September, 2020 by carl.graziano

First ride today. A few places impacted by construction, but in great shape overall and quick ride from upper Northeast to NoMa. And wow, the street art along the way!

Cross County Trail (VA)

awesome ride! just consider fatties

September, 2020 by keyjamesd

This is a mid-level bike trail with plenty of off trail single tracking. Most of the path is paved. There are some rough areas which is why I say, mid-level. Your gonna carry your $3000 road bike. I would have been very happy on my gravel bike, but I chose my fixed gear road bike. I know! I didn’t read reviews, and I’m kicking myself for it! But I still had an awesome time carrying some of the way.

Love it. As other review mentioned, pretty crowded on the weekend.

Gwynns Falls Trail

closure at Edmondson Ave Bridge

September, 2020 by smanskee

We rode this trail September 5 and it was great EXCEPT for the closure at the Edmondson Ave bridge. No detours are posted so a visitor has to fend for herself!

H & F Trolley Trail

Wonderful starter trail

September, 2020 by 36s7x5nqjp

Took my granddaughters to this trail today. One is younger and a new cyclist (training wheels off this past summer). The other a bit older but had not been biking in a while. Very smooth paved trail. Several small bridges to go over and waterways right off the trail. Nice landscaping done by several local businesses. A good amount of benches to take a break on. Glad we found this gem.

Lake Mercer Loop Trail

beautiful but rocky

August, 2020 by debbayly

The scenery along this trail was beautiful, but very little was paved; the vast majority was rocky gravel. The trail was shaded, good for a hot sunny day. Do not try this trail with a road bike!

Capital Crescent Trail

Great ride, but busy on the weekend!

First time on this trail today - entire length from Bethesda to Georgetown waterfront and back. Well maintained and an easy ride, but spent a fair amount of time passing joggers, families with strollers, and slower riders. Still, a satisfying experience, and will ride again soon!

Braddock Road Sidepath

Needs to be resurfaced

There are a lot of hazards on this trail that make using it unpleasant.

Winchester Green Circle

This trail is beautiful. You walk and see the colorful wildflowers, birds and can hear the cows splashing in the near by ponds. If your lucky you can stand on the bridge and watch the train go by. These simple pleasures in life might not be for everyone, but for me...I enjoy and appreciate the natural beauty of this trail. Yes, there is a part where you walk by the roads, SO WHAT....This trail is safe, well maintained and LEVEL.

Intercounty Connector Trail

ICC Trail - Great for bicycling

August, 2020 by dtread

Traveled on the ICC Trail from Layhill Road to within a mile of Shady Grove Metro station, then doubled back and took Beach Drive south along Lake Needwood to where the Rock Creek Trail starts. Then I went back northbound on Beach Drive and followed the ICC Trail back to Layhill Road. Generally the ICC Trail is really great. Nice wide, smooth surface over the majority of the trail (approximately 10 feet wide). The Emory Lane section is considerably narrower (approximately 6 feet wide). Although Beach Drive is not part of the ICC Trail I wanted to check out how that was for connecting to the Rock Creek Trail, and it is typical park road with low traffic volume and pretty safe IMO for bicyclists, and a pretty easy connection to the Rock Creek Trail. There is not a sign at the Emory Lane junction, so that may cause a bit of confusion the first time you ride the trail. The trail doubles back under MD 200 at that point. Traffic noise from MD 200 on a lot of the trail is a downside, but the smooth, wide trail surface is really great. No protruding bumps from tree roots, potholes, muddy sections, culverts, etc. that are typical of a number of trails in the area. The places where you have to cross intersections have traffic signals installed and seemed pretty safe, although one should ALWAYS observe caution. I gave the ICC Trail a "5" rating, although I thought it was really about half way between a 4 and a 5. But, compared to a lot of other trails it is definitely one of the best in the area.
