Beautiful , scenery with cooler mountain temperatures and rail road grade along a mountain river. A must ride if your in the Boone area and want a joy ride in the mountains.
Got a map and info. at Abingdon Creeper Trail office. Nice shady trail with some challenging grade changes. Beautiful ride. Damascus trail park clean and neat. Lots of bikes out with friendly folks. Enjoy !!!
This trail is a secondary road that travels alongside the New River. This is the only reason I gave it 4 stars. The road is flat, which is odd for the NC mountain area. I went on a Monday and it was pretty quiet, but you will see some vehicles.
Worth the drive for this scenic ride through the.country. Ride the trail on a weekday and the traffic was fine. Don’t forget to eat the sticky buns at Todd Mercantile Store.
Crushed gravel surface from Forest City to Spindale to Ruth with asphalt pavers on the trail today laying down a new 12 ft wide asphalt surface! Nice snowcone stop on the trail at Serendipity Snowcones in Spindale. We parked at the library/gym.
We went 4.8 out and back. Nice combo of up and down gentle incline decline. Light packed gravel. I have Trek Dual sport and good for this since little wider tire. Good wide trail.
A great trail, but please be aware of rockslide approximately 1.6 miles from Old Fort terminus. Debris can be walked through, but you will need to dismount.
Easy trail to walk, run or ride. One of many in Wilkes!
Trail is ok. Not a fan of hills after living where I did before. Trail is clean and shaded somewhat.
Once you get out of the many street crossings the trail is very enjoyable. My wife and I rode it with our hybrids which was the perfect bike choice. The trail is wide and easy to navigate. Nice gradual climb from Elizabethton to Johnson City. The trail has that hard packed, sandy surface. That's the reason for four stars instead of five. I shouldn't be so picky. I plan to ride it again with some friends.
Thia was an exhilarating ride. took shuttle provided by mom & pop company in damascus to top of mountain. 17 mile downhill ride. a little rough in spots but all in all a great ride. small restaurant once back in damascus for a quick bite.
As a 60 year old man, I've wanted to do the VCT for quite some time. Last year, I got an e-bike to ride some of the hills in the Appalachian Mountains. It has made riding so enjoyable for a guy my age and since then, I ride so much more often. I have to say, it made riding up the hill from Damascus to White Top a pure pleasure and the ride back down...well that's what everyone seems to love doing. The scenery along this jewel of a trail is awesome. Don't forget to take a good camera. I'm planning to do the Abingdon, Virginia half soon. Can't wait!
