Richmond and Danville Rail-Trail

Good Trail

May, 2021 by hammell_joseph

Great trail for family walking, running, biking. It’s wide clear trail, I left one star off as the bridge is supposedly out and there are barriers that keep you from crossing. Otherwise, it is still a good spot for some outdoor exercise.

Great trail to run during the day! Well kept and has great entry/exit points with a lot of parking. It doesn’t have street lights so I wouldn’t run it at night!

Tobacco Heritage Trail

Tobacco Heritage Roundtrip

April, 2021 by sweigand_tl

I roundtripped this trail in April ‘21 on a hybrid mountain bike. 35.5 miles, 3:40 time, 9.6mph average speed. The trail was well maintained - grass was cut, large fallen trees were removed, garbage containers were emptied, trail parking is plentiful at the several trailheads. The first few miles out of LaCrosse were paved, the rest is crushed gravel, softer sand, and dirt/grass. I saw only 2 other bikers all day (they were on e-bikes). There definitely is not a lot of use on the trail, there are no tunnels or really long trestles or bridges, and there is not much in terms of trailside amenities that I could tell (restaurants, bed and breakfasts, stores), but if you’re looking for a nice long ride in the woods with nobody else around, this is the trail for you. If it gets connected into a larger/longer trail system, and if that spurs some economic development along the way in terms of businesses catering to bikers and tourists, this current trail could be a great foundation for a future longer trail that could be a bucket-list type of ride.

American Tobacco Trail

great for beginners!

This was our first trail ride in over 2 years and it was so much fun! Easy to get back into. We went from parking at the solite park up to the most northern point. A round trip of almost 14 miles and it was fantastic!

Back to back thru hike

April, 2021 by 8bk8mg57dr

I walked this trail in its entirety twice yesterday. I started at the southernmost point at the NewHill location and made my way to the northernmost point at the Durham Bulls Athletics Park and back. A total of 50+ miles and 14 hours later I can attest to the greatness of this trail. Long, flat with plenty of space, this trail did not disappoint . Beautiful views along the way with plenty of wildlife in the south opening up to a busy city landscape offered much diversity through the hike. I highly recommend!Ihighly recommended

Atlantic & Yadkin Greenway

be careful of traffic and dog poop

April, 2021 by thaddeusstewart728

Overall great trail . But trail is cut in between three busy intersections with plenty of cars so you have to be really careful . Also beware of dog poop among the trail. Some dog owners aren’t cleaning up after themselves .
