Shining Sea Bikeway

wonderful views

July, 2019 by mfkoeppen

This is an almost level ride from North Falmouth to Woods Hole. Many shady spots along the way, as wall as lemonade stands, restaurants, and shaved ice. Views include cranberry bogs, marshlands, and the beach. The trail is well maintained, and has many miles of smooth new asphalt. Locals have added some decorations and artwork along the way.

Awesome trail

July, 2019 by godsmelissa

This trail was great. We parked at the depot lot- very rutted and busy but big. We ate lunch at the Station Grill just across the lot before we rode. That is about 4miles in from the end point in the woods hole area. We rode towards that way for views of the ocean. It was flat, fresh paved w/ road crossing well marked. The art murals were really neat. There was a port o potty along the rt also a picnic area and drinking fountain. We stopped and went down to the water in a rocky pebble beach area, most was private beach but it seemed those on bikes were welcomed; cars take up road space bikes don’t. It was very hot so we did not do the entire trail but will definitely make another trip to go back. The small restaurant where we parked was a great point due to bathroom use, friendly owner, outdoor tables, cornhole games on the out of service tracks, a water mister and the super fresh made to order simple sandwich’s with the utmost quality.

Cape Cod Rail Trail

Needs upkeep

June, 2019 by elj317

I have done the CCRT many, many times-the last being in early June , 2019. This trail was one of the best in the Northeast for a long time. Now, however, things look like they need some work. The tree roots are numerous between Dennisport and Harwich. Every 10 feet there is a jar to the body. After doing a lot of trails on the East Coast, especially in Florida, I see where the old time trails are remiss. The Southern trails tend to have rest areas along the trail where the rider can relax and get water. Usually , playgrounds and parking lots are there also. The CCRT is a real attraction to vacationers and bike enthusiasts. Putting some money into it would have a good return on investment.

Nice trail

Cape Cod Rail Trail

Completed it with my nine year old

January, 2019 by richjoyce534

I had wanted to do this trail since I was a kid. I took my family out on it and completed the entire trail in two days. I documented the entire trek. The best stops to make start in Orleans. If you want a perspective of what it is like here is a video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYPiNHN9P1g

I also extended the end and biked to the Beachcomber in Wellfleet. totally worth getting a beer at the end.

Pleasant Little Surprise

October, 2018 by lindseygyngell

A lovely walk through the foliage. Paved in some parts and crushed rock in others. Not too busy. Quiet, but still close to civilization.

Cape Cod Rail Trail

Extension is now open

October, 2018 by alexpowers360

The extension mentioned is now open. It's beautiful and well worth the ride. Early to mid October is a great month for the western portion because you can catch Cranberry bogs being harvested. The views from the Bass River bridge are terrific too.

A roller coaster ride on your bike!

September, 2018 by ellenbond

This trail was so much fun to ride! The hills are fun and the scenery is gorgeous. The trail is very well maintained and well marked with signs to remind you where you are and where the next turn will take you. I can't wait to return and ride it again.

Cape Cod Rail Trail

Not yet open

August, 2018 by youker

The Western section of the trail is not yet all open. The description here is correct, but the trail map includes sections that are not yet open. The trail is open between North Maine St. and Peter Homer Memorial Park. It is finished but not yet open where the new bridge crosses over the Bass River. At Station Ave the new very large parking lot is complete and open. The far western section from Peter Homer Park (Forest Road) has not been constructed but shows on the trail map.

Great trail!

August, 2018 by irishpenguin75

Did this trail with my son (12), short & moderately challenging trail with several good hills and sharp turns. Great scenery, it winds through a few different areas of the park, so you get to bike through the piney areas by the shore and deeper, denser forested areas further inland. There's a short little spur to a neat little pond too. Great trail for families with middle school age kids and above.

Cape Cod Rail Trail

This is a great trail that my wife and I have been riding for many years. We love the new trail head in South Dennis on Main St. It is much more accessible than the parking on Route 134. The trail to the west (towards Yarmouth) is still not opened yet because of the finishing of construction of the bridge over the Bass River. We heard it will be open later this summer. Can’t wait!
