East Bay Bike Path

Love this trail, but

December, 2016 by rectrike

When it's crowded the traffic patterns are crazy because RI has this crazy rule about walkers on the the left and bikes on the ride. That would be just perfect if the paths were one-way, which they aren't. So the oncoming walkers are coming at you in your lane if you are biking, and when you are passing you are cycling coming up on walkers from their backsides and some cyclists have to go 25 mph no matter how crowded, and throw into the mix bikers and walkers going in the opposite direction and then to add to the confusion about a 1/3 of the trail users don't follow the rule and you can't really be sure if they do or don't...CHAOS!!

But I love RI bike trails anyway!

Washington Secondary Bike Path

A great ride

November, 2016 by rbsorensen

I live in Cranston and have ridden this trail many times. It has some very picturesque areas, in particular, the mills in Warwick, the Coventry Greenway, and the trestle trail. It's length is very good - doing a round trip gives you 38 miles of riding.

People call this the West Bay trail - never heard of the "Washington Secondary Bike Path". Unlike the start of the East Bay trail in Providence, it is easy to park at the start or along the route at either end.

However, there are a few areas that need work. Portions of the trail in West Warwick are in great need of resurfacing (there are a number of large frost heaves), and the Cranston trail needs resurfacing in some areas as well, as it is aging.

Blackstone River Greenway (RI)

A must to ride on

October, 2016 by kumarkshitij

Such a beautiful trail. Very well maintained. Do the round trip and you get to see beautiful scenery both ways. So many places to stop and take in the views. Thanks to RI for funding and maintaining such a recreational treasure.

Simply Spectacular

September, 2016 by jmkelly525

What a gem! If you enjoy walking, jogging, rollerblading, cycling, etc., on your own or with family and friends do not hesitate to explore this trail that will only get better with it's expansion. The beauty is extrodinary, the history fantastic. A little paradise in the middle of this historic mill city.

Explore Fall River further with it's restaurants, dining, waterfront and museums. We welcome you to enjoy!

Blackstone River Greenway (RI)

Well worth your time!

September, 2016 by ricke11

I found this to be a very scenic, well-maintained, and user-friendly bike trail. Varying views and terrain made for a pleasant ride from Lonsdale to Woonsocket & back (a ~24 mi RT). As mentioned below, there is a brief section where sub-pavement roots are prevalent south of Ashton, but otherwise the surface is great. Restroom facilities just south of the northern terminus were open on a Tuesday afternoon (below the soccer fields around the back of the building) - which was a pleasant surprise.

On the return I biked a bit south of the Lonsdale Drive-In parking area, but a passerby mentioned that the trail went on-road, and signage was easy to miss, so I decided to call it a day. More details to help navigate this section would be appreciated.

East Bay Bike Path

decent path

September, 2016 by drgouveia

I found the path to be quite nice. It is relatively flat with lots of shade throughout. The 3 miles or so closest to the Woods Hole end were quite bumpy with frost heave remnants. Otherwise, the trail was in very good condition.

East Bay Bike Path

September, 2016 by jgator

Rode the trail from Haines Park to the end point at Bristol. Nice trail with some good shore views. However, the trail maintenance is somewhat lacking. At places, the heaving cracks were so bad that the jarring could almost shake you fillings out. Constantly weaving in and out to try to avoid the washboard effect. Even an unpaved hard packed surface would be more preferable. Wouldn't ride it again until the numerous cracks are fixed.

Washington Secondary Bike Path

A further inspection

September, 2016 by 23rock

As forecast before, I returned to ride the final 4.5 miles to the end of the paved rail at Summit. This was the best section of all. My legs noticed the climb to the west although my eyes didn't. But the return eastward was noticeably easier. After the biking part, I drove around west to the crossing of Lewis Farm Road, which is the last road crossing in Rhode Island. On aerials, I had noted a bridge west of Lewis Farm Road and realized that you can just see it from the road. So, I walked the short distance to the bridge and took photos both across it and from below. It's a somewhat high former railroad structure, now decked for trail use. It's used both by the Trestle Trail part of the bikeway and by the North South Trail, a hiking trail. It crosses the Moosup River. So, it looks like there are no bridge type gaps west of Summit, but the surface west of Summit still needs work.
