Bruce Freeman Rail Trail

great trail!!

May, 2026 by chleary11

I started in Acton and went up to Chelmsford. Plenty of parking and clean bathrooms—bonus! I really enjoyed this trail and look forward to doing the southern half soon.

South Spencer Rail Trail

Quite and Peaceful

Lot's of stops along the way to enjoy the sites. It's a very well maintained small trail

Ashuelot Recreational Rail Trail

pleasant ride

May, 2026 by slasalle76

I'd ridden this trail a couple years ago, doing it in small sections, and had found it to be a nice ride with a decent surface, quite reasonable for my older hybrid. I only did about 6 miles today, from Keene southward before turning back, and those couple of detours noted in another review are still in place - taking you out onto the road for short stretches likely to avoid power line work being done.

Recent upgrades transform this trail

May, 2026 by andrix

My wife and I ride (e-bikes) this once a year or so. Today (Monday mid-May) was the first we experienced some new bridges eliminating previously awkward and annoying sections. The trail is paved and has wildlife, the bay, a troll sculpture, several bike shops and some eateries along the way. It has always been a go to for us but even more so now. We also did an extra 6 road (rt) miles to check out Roger Williams University. A gem of a trail.

Farmington Canal Heritage Trail

Terrible Shape

May, 2026 by dave36

Rode from Avon, CT to Westfield, MA. Mass section in great shape. CT section is awful. Pavement is split, constant 'ka-thunk', pot holes not marked, just horrendous condition. Where is the CT DOT and our tax dollars? Stay away.

Twin Cities Rail Trail

Nice enough.

May, 2026 by gbrosseau

Other reviews are fair. Lots of starts and stops for a shorter trail, but also some nice lengths and well maintained. Being from the area, I knew what to expect. I had more fun dodging and beeping my horn at bunnies on my night ride, than I did going around children on my day ride. Nice either way.

The trail is poorly maintained. Do not recommend.

Charter Oak Greenway

OK, but several issues

April, 2026 by m.p.schneider.lc

This trail was OK. The part along the river and in downtown was scenic and it was paved all the way.

However, it goes along the highway for a while with just a chain link fence as separation, which is not enjoyable at all (east of the gap is not scenic). It also has a lot of tree roots creating speed bumps. Finally, the gap between the river and the rest is significant (& don't take what looks like the most direct route as Pratt & Whittney has a security gate for part, so you can't get through unless employed there).

World War II Veterans Memorial Trail/Norton Rail-Trail

great for inline skating

April, 2026 by rsamary121

Came here for my first skating trail as a beginner it was great! Lots of sticks around so beware of your step but other than that will be coming here a lot more! Loved it

Cheshire Rail Trail (Cheshire Branch Rail Trail)

Varied Terrain, MultiUse, Lovely. Birds!

April, 2026 by susanadeleedwards

Went north out of Keene on the trail, and was quickly in a lovely wooded area, then soon at a side trail to Stonewall Farm, where visitors are welcome to wander. The birds were singing happily! We did 6.5 miles out before turning around but there was plenty more trail to explore. If you are expecting a super flat trail and a packed surface this may not be your kind of fun. If you don’t mind dismounting for a rickety bridge, or adventuring on side trails, then check this trail Out ,

Canalside Rail Trail

Beautiful scenery

November, 2025 by scanlon.gail

The Canalside rail trail is fully open and the paved trail is very well maintained. While it is only 7.2 miles round trip, it’s worth it! Plenty of parking at both ends and the town of Turners Falls has a nice selection of restaurants and shops.
