Car Break-Ins

May, 2017 by able88

After a pleasant day of biking and upon our return to parking at the Browns Mill Trailhead, we found that our vehicle back window had been smashed, along with another trail patron's car. Had to get repaired this week. Be careful! They need a security patrol and cameras at this site.

Silver Comet Trail

Loved this Trail!

May, 2017 by gahanosh

First time on the Comet at the recommendation of a friend. He wasn't kidding - this is a great trail. Well maintained with beautiful scenery. Road the leg from the Georgia State line to Cedartown. Wow just wow. Will do again soon.

A lot of hills!

April, 2017 by denpep

This trail is about a 3 hour drive for us so we decided to give it a try. Its paved and very nice but if you are not use to hills be prepared, there are a lot of them. If you don't like hills I would not recommend this trail. For those that said it wasn't enough of a work out they must be out of their minds. We were headed to the Rockdale River Trail and met a local man
riding the trail and he warned us about the "monster" hill that went straight down. We were very thankful for that information.

Keswick Park Extension Trail

A Nice Start

March, 2017 by irisknapp

For it being just over a half mile it's a nice little trail. It was done very well. It's not much use for a serious walker, jogger or bicyclist but it's nice for a casual walk or to go on with kids.
The online map doesn't show where to park. We parked by Five Guys in the Walmart shopping center but there is also parking on the Keswick Park side by the adult softball field.
I hope there are plans for an extension. I drive to the Roswell/Alpharetta Greenway & Silver Comet on a weekly basis. Would love to have something closer to home. I LOVE Chamblee but we sorely lack a good trail.

The beauty of Nature

February, 2017 by chestershaven

My husband and I were visiting our godchild and she took me to the park for a walk. She says it is one of her favorites places to walk and reflect. I see why. To say it is beautiful is an understatement. We saw deer, foot prints of other wild life, sandy shoals and waterfalls. The next time we come we are bringing our bicycles. Awesome!

A TALE OF TWO TRAILS - GA

January, 2017 by koldtoess

For a long, late fall weekend, my wife and I based camped at the Chief Ladiga Trail Campground. The campground is located in the Talladega N.F. approx. 7 miles from the GA state line. It is on the trial with plenty of acreage, a running creek, clean showers and a great staff (Terry & his dog Honey)! Hopping onto the trail riding east, we went through some of the most scenic RtTs we have ever rode. You will ride slightly uphill through beautiful forest and creeks until you hit the state line, the photo stop. You will continue with the same scenery, but on concrete, until you “dog leg” at the outskirts/industrial area of Cedartown. After the loop and city street maze, you can visit Cedartown via the unique S. College St. bridge or S. Main St. at the depot. The depot is a great spot to break and has a small museum and bathrooms. There are a couple of unique places to lunch but since it was Sunday most of the place were close so we ate some awesome Sunday-after-church fried chicken at Bojangles. While in town, ride round to courthouse to see the local sports statues. These parts of the CL & SC trails were great but bring plenty of fluids and be careful at all the crossings. After returning the same way, we had a great night sleep and I hit the CL trial westbound.

Mountain-to-River Trail

Very nice but recreational not commuter trail

December, 2016 by forrestslive

Very nice trail from Kennesaw National Battlefield Park to almost Kennestone Hospital area. The trail also extends to the NW along Old 41 to Barrett Parkway where it joins the Noonday Creek trail extending from Burnt Hickory along Barrett all the way to Bells Ferry Road between East Piedmont/Barrett and Chastain Road. See https://cobbcounty.org/images/documents/16-0105_CobbTrailMap.pdf

The Mountain to River Trail is planned to extend to the River (and Smyrna) and much of that route is complete along Atlanta Road but not all. There is still a gap from where the trail turns to the east from Kennsaw Avenue and Tower and extends to Roselane but not yet beyond. The plan is to run along Campbell Hill to Church through downtown Marrietta and then along Atlanta Street towards Smyrna. The trail is still being developed from Roselane to Atlanta Road behind Dobbins AFB.

Here is where the trail design belays the strong bias towards recreational and wandering trails designed for a pleasant roll rather than transportation and commuter routes designed to move people efficiently. Why the trail does not continue along Kennesaw Avenue into Marrietta is beyond me except for the political reality of not disturbing the nicer older homes' already existing sidewalks to make them multi-use paths. Seems obvious to take the most efficient and already heavily used route along the sidewalks rather than extending an extra mile to behind Kennestone. This is why you will see so many bikers staying off the trail and biking Kennesaw Avenue itself and straight into Marietta--people tend to take the best route.

The portion along Atlanta Road once you get to it behind Dobbins is very nice but there is no easy way over the 120 Loop/South Marietta Parkway and for some reason the Confederate cemetery is now entirely fenced without an easy entry so you can not cross over to West Atlanta Street (a much better biking road than Atlanta Road) without risking your life to West Dixie--and by then you will just stay on Atlanta until you pick up the trail in another half mile or so and worst part behind you.

Once you get on the trail, it is excellent if a bit dirty at times until Windy Hill Road where it again truncates and you have to cross over for another mile of road until the trail picks up again in Smyrna--you may again decide to stay on the road as it is good four lane and the trail not very wide or smooth when you do pick it up. I just stay on Atlanta Road and have ridden it all the way into Atlanta without problem.

Silver Comet Trail

Beautiful Disaster

November, 2016 by creativefunforkids

This is a lovely trail full of beautiful nature. We entered the trail in Smyrna, keeping our kids to the right side of the path to allow passing. Within 5 minutes a cycler came speeding up on us, we only knew because the people behind us were screaming for him to slow down after almost hitting their small child. He continued on In the right lane knocking my 3yr old nephew off his bike and to the ground, not stopping until others demanded he stop. Same thing happened on the way out as we were leaving, this man got off his bike and came after the family who yelled for him to slow down! I am horrified by the lack of courtesy for children by these cyclers we encountered and hope that this is not common and that next time will be a different experience.
