McQueen's Island Trail

Trail is in rough shape

November, 2017 by rlmarx49

We started from the south end just last week (11/6/2017).
It doesn't seem the trail has been maintained in quite some time. In the first 2 miles there were large logs across the trail in 4 places. At the 2.2 mile mark it was completely washed out. Not crossable for us.

Looks like it could be nice if taken care of.

McQueen's Island Trail

Nice little ride

May, 2017 by jeff.sumrell

From the parking area I headed left about 2.5 miles to the end then rode all the way down to Fork Pulaski and back. Nice ride but there is still a large washout which I recommend you dismount and cross. (This recommendation comes from my experience of trying to ride across and face planting at the bottom). Your choice.

Cheers!

Queensway Historic trail, near Tybee Island.

May, 2017 by kenyaplant

Needs repair- a couple of bridges are out- one passable but other not passable if high tide. Still not bad small gravel path- lined by palm trees that provide shade. Part of path wiped out by storm and some parts too sandy to ride through. No facilities.

Spanish Moss Trail

My favorite place to ride

March, 2017 by samistrange

First, the trail is actually 9.25 miles long, 18.5 round trip.
Waterways and wooded marshland for the most part, sometimes you can see dolphins. I ride here weekly and always enjoy it.

Spanish Moss Trail

Beautiful trail

March, 2017 by clgarret

We live in charleston and decided to day trip to Beaufort for this trail. It's a beautiful trail. It's wide all cement for at least 8+ miles, one way, and well maintained. Lots of people cycling, walking, kids, rollers skating on the trail. It has an option to get off and detour to Bay Street ( main tourist road in Beaufort). We parked at the parking lot off roseida road. I thought that was the beginning of the trail but it appears a new addition has been added going north( away from downtown). I would def recommend to anyone looking to cycle the city and get some exercise doing so. Have fun!

Spanish Moss Trail

leisurely ride

February, 2017 by valkyrie2311

The trail currently runs about 9.5 miles, from mile marker 2 in Port Royal to the newest parking lot across from the MCAS at mile marker 11.5. I biked the full out-and-back 19 miles in about 2.5 hours; there a few one or two mile uninterrupted sections, but highway and road crossings are fairly common. The highway crossings all have crosswalks, but the crossing near Laurel Bay is oddly marked and can be confusing from the West side.

not so fast

This is a decent trail mostly flat and incomplete on both ends...yes there are some scenic views along with some "eye sores"...

Spanish Moss Trail

Trail has extended

September, 2016 by michelepennington

Each morning, my husband and I enjoy the 20+ mile (round trip) from Port Royal area to the Burton area, which extends now well beyond the MCAS. We love cheering on the F-35 fighter jets ocassionally, while they practice overhead! We call those "The Freedom Days". The small bridge has been constructed to maneuver you around to the stoplight at the MCAS, and it is beautiful, amazing craftsmanship. Can't wait to discover the next phase of our Lowcountry trail. Thank you!!

Leave the traffic jam, park & bike the trail

September, 2016 by maplover2

Crushed gravel surface is packed down nicely in most places. It's deep where freshly applied. Ample shoulder parking on 80 allows you to get out of traffic, park, and hop onto trail quickly at the Midway point. Bike 3 miles East or 3 miles west and connect to all the trails at Fort Pulaski, $7 entrance fee required.
Ocean breezes and Palms create a little shade. Trail includes several small bridges over estuaries, shade stops, benches and trash cans. Nearest refreshment is 1 mile East at Coco's Sunset Grill. Hopefully trail connectivity coming soon until then ride the shoulder of 80 to get there.

Spanish Moss Trail

Hands down the best trail in the low country

The SMT is beautiful and a total pleasure to ride. Scenic views at every point in the trail. You couldn't ask for a nicer and safer place to ride.

McQueen's Island Trail

Still under repair, but nice trail

April, 2016 by genuinegirl

I've run on this trail a couple of times since early 2015. There has been construction at 2.25 miles from the Fort Pulaski parking area since then. You can navigate around and keep on running, and navigate around the other blocked construction area (at your own risk, not too reckless) - however, it will be nice when this construction is completed so you can get a full 6+ miles one way run.

Scenic, gravel/shell trail material makes for a nice run/walk. Everyone I've seen on the trail is courteous and friendly, which makes this a good trail.

Beautiful paved trail over re-claimed rail bed. It is used actively by the locals for exercise and shortcuts to work and school. The main shortcoming is the lack of rest room facilities.
