Canalside Rail Trail

Trail Closed

October, 2024 by joerone_tl

Part of this trail is closed, my wife and I got about 2 miles or so in and there was a detour sign for the trail and we could not find where it picked up again. Road on the streets for a bit and then headed back to the truck, got about 5 miles in on the ride so not a total loss

Sugar River Trail

Not for bicycles!

October, 2024 by jimblackjim7

The scenery is very nice which is why I gave it more than one star. The surface is sand. Sometimes pretty well packed. Other times quite loose. It was doable with our hybrid bikes, but a lot of work and not much fun. Add to this a steady stream of dirt bikes and 4x4s kicking up dust and spewing fumes! Just not our kind of cycling.

Fort Hill Recreational Rail Trail

great trail

September, 2024 by leslie.sherman316

We did this trail today. It is quite bumpy but the scenery more than makes up for that. It goes through beautiful forests with frequent views of the Connecticut River. Don’t pass it up if you are in the area.

West Foss Farm Trail

Nice easy trail until it crosses the stream then turns into more challenging path. Small elevation changes. Lots of mosquitoes since it goes next to a stream/bog/swamp

Ashburnham Rail Trail

Very Enjoyable, Much natural beauty

I'm in love with this trail. Much of the trail path is dirt, but there is a new area with fine gravel. I find this such a peaceful trail and consider it to be in good maintenance. Thanks to everyone that maintains the trails.

Cotton Valley Rail Trail

So this trail has a hidden risk. Going from trail on the side of the rails to inside the rails can be tricky. My wife fell twice and skinned her knee pretty good. Also trail is narrow and has lots of walkers with dogs. Views are good near wolfboro but after that it’s a tree tunnel. Don’t need to do it again.

Mass Central Rail Trail

Weston-Waltham section

September, 2024 by msandman1943_tl

This section (8/2024) is about 5 miles long. It goes through woodland and past leafy backyards, but it runs alongside the towers for a high-tension power line. Trees have been clear-cut about 25 feet on both sides of the trail, so there's no shade along this section. But the trail is wide, very straight, and smoothly paved. It has a few small ups and downs and crosses four or five quiet roads before it comes to a traffic signal at the intersection of Routes 126 and 27. Just beyond, the trail turns to crushed stone with a few sandy patches. There's a large supermarket and shopping center adjacent to the trail at that point.

Bruce Freeman Rail Trail

Agree. GREAT Trail!

We parked in West Concord and decided to ride south to Sudbury. Beautiful trail — ends 2 miles from where we parked with a locked gate. BUT… there is more trail on the other side. There is a nice, paved switchback up to a crossing at Powdermill Road. All marked with great signage. The way down on the other side is very steep and not paved—but manageable after dismounting. Trail is just as beautiful on the other side. We didn’t make it quite to the end because I got a construction-based flat at North Road (the Davis Field parking lot). I didn’t notice that they hadn’t paved the transitions at the road crossing and pinched a tire. Oh well. Hopefully, by the time you ride the construction will be complete and you can just enjoy the scenery!

Winnipesaukee River Trail

well maintained with beautiful views of the river

August, 2024 by brenda.viglienzoni

This trail was lovely. I did the entire trail both ways in a couple of hours. Mostly flat and well maintained. Began in Tilton on Rt 140 and road to the end in Franklin. Many nice places to stop along the way. Took some great pictures. It was a bit confusing when the trail ends and you are routed down Main Street in Tilton. I almost turned around at this point. Honestly It’s really not that far through town. Just be careful of cars backing out of parking spots. The vistas are worth it, keep going. Looking forward to checking out another trail.
