Wife and I rode the entire trail. The trail seemed to have had the shoulders recently mowed but there was a lot of small limbs and large grass clumps on the trail from mowing discharge. The last 100 yards of the trail to the river is on a gravel drive. The point where the asphalt ends and this gravel drive needs a sign to tell you that you’re almost at the end. It’s very sketchy at the very end by the river. There were a few tables and shelter there. There were bumps in the asphalt from tree roots growing under the trail. My wife and I rode the trail on 6-22-2025 with gravel bikes . Most of the trail is in very good shape. There are a couple of spots with sand over the trail but most is asphalt. Half of the trail is shaded so recommend morning or evening ride.
Years of trail neglect and last seasons hurricanes have made this potentially wonderful trail not worth your effort to locate.
Needed a paved trail for a run. Parked at Wesley Ball Park and ran 1.5mi then turned around. Not what I expected based on reviews. The trail itself was good but lots of trash surrounding it and stray dogs on this section.
After the two big storms this year, there are trees that are down all over both sides , directly blocking the trail. Small branches and leaves cover 50% of it. A couple teams with chainsaw and a brush cleaner machine could take care of this in less than a couple days. I sure hope it’s soon as this trail is fantastic.
Beautiful trail but dangerous due to lack of maintenance. Signs missing at intersections, overgrown in areas, downed trees blocking the path and major asphalt buckling.
Contacted FDOT to inquire about maintenance, FDOT referred me to Madison Public Works and provided contact information. Sent an e-mail requesting maintenance but did not receive a response. Hope to try it again someday.
We visited Madison RV resort on our way home. We found this bike trail on your app. It is a 12 mile ride one way, we rode 8 miles of this trail. It was a nice relaxing ride.I have to give a big thumbs up to the entinty that cleaned the trail after the hurricane. It was completely clear of any obstacles. The first 7 miles were clear biking, at which time the trail was getting a tad rooty. Mother Nature is winning the tree root intrusion.I would give this trail an absolute go and rideable
Natives have a difficult time finding something nice to say about their hometown sometimes, and I had heard mixed reviews about this trail. In the past week, I have driven in a couple of mornings to take advantage of something I consider to be a gem of a trail. I began in town, to the right of Hobby Lobby. I cruised through the local college campus, followed a short MARKED detour (part of the bike trail) through a few quiet streets, then made my way back to the trail and behind a few businesses, passing by the caboose and local history museum before heading out of town. The trail continued through an industrial section of town (cool storage, body shop, trailer manufacturing) for about 1/4 mile before crossing the road and eventually ending at the Coffee County High School sports complex. I took the liberty of riding around the high school campus, in and out of the parking lots and around buildings and nearby neighborhoods. In the end, I clocked 11-12 miles.
Like anything else, it is what you make it... and WHEN you make it - early morning rides on this trail have been a very positive experience for me and my husband.
I’m going to echo some of the other reviews. It has potential but it needs some maintenance. There are a lot areas where roots have heaved up the asphalt bad and there not marked. It needs to be cleared of limbs and twigs and it isn’t marked real clearly at places as to which way you should go makes it a one and done for us. Trails like Gainesville, Jacksonville or West Orange are on a completely different level. Rode May10, 2023.
Parked downtown at Wesley Ball Park and rode the trail. Some shade and some sun along the trail. This is trail is getting attention. There are trail improvements at the airport end and looks like someone has marked road hazards /warning. Thanks!
Love it. Great for kids. Very easy to ride
