Rode from Rambo trailhead north to Van Wert in early March 2025. I think this is the best part of the trail. Very quiet and scenic with few road crossings and the trail is in excellent condition.
After riding a couple of rail trails in Ga and Al my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed having this non-typical ride. The long straights of open asphalt being replaced with wide curvy smooth cement was refreshing. The trail is very well maintained and marked. Love the yellow center lines that keep traffic safe. The primary loop has long spaced center lines and the spurs loops or legs have shorter lines making it easy to know which path you want to take. Plenty of resting spots, and restroom facilities along the route. We have done the winter trip now and will be back for a spring trip after the bloom. Hats off to the Carrollton trail maintenance team.
There is a 3 mile loop around the lake that is not shown on the map.
My default ride is from the Eubanks Welcome Center In Piedmont to over into GA and back. It’s such an awesome trail and is always a joy to ride there. Well maintained and beautiful!
Pleasant trail through wooded marshlands, but the southern end (from about 3 mi. north of Fowler Park south) is largely boardwalk, which a bit dicey for thin-tired road bikes. Also, as of 10/2024 a bridge was closed at about 3.5 miles north of Fowler Park.
Yesterday 10-10-24 we rode the trail. We parked near Jacksonville State Campus and rode the the trailhead to the Silver Comet start. Beautiful trail with great scenery. Only complaint was the asphalt needed some work. Some parts were marked when it was rough (although they’ve could stand to remark them) but lots of places weren’t marked so be careful and watch the road. We stopped in Piedmont for lunch at Elevated Grounds Coffee Shop. Paul had chicken salad sandwich and I had BLT. Both delicious ! The owner even greeted us when we arrived.
This trail wraps around the golf course. It’s clean and quiet. Has a few gradual elevations but nothing hard. I didn’t notice at first.
Great trail!! Nice scenery and several bathroom along the trail. Nice trail for family outings.
We started at the Martin Trailhead just west of Cedartown and rode to the state line. It was a good, wide path that I was comfortable really getting up to speed on the straightaways because visibility was very high in most areas and the trail was mostly clear of major debris despite being almost entirely shaded. My son who was riding as a passenger did throw a small limb off the trail when we made a stop on the return trip, but I don't recall it being there when we came through the first time, so it had likely fallen or been placed on the trail within the last 2 hours.
Went about 7 miles into Alabama from the Georgia line on our ride. It was a good, fairly smooth and flat ride. Compared to the Georgia side of the ride, however, there was a bit less shade and the path was significantly more narrow. It was hardly problematic in general, but it did have a larger impact when people were riding in pairs or passing relative to the wider Silver Comet portion.
