Great Casual Ride!!

April, 2018 by seabh2005

Nice nearly flat trail along the Piney River. Simple out and back for those that want an easy workout or have children and don't want to deal with crowds. Secluded and easy to navigate. I recommend for those that are nearby.

I drove here from Culpeper VA. Not sure I would go this distance for this ride again, but it was a good day for the wife and I to get some miles in the legs early in the season.

Rivanna Trail

disappointed

April, 2018 by tom.joy

We started in Riverview Park and had a nice ride north for 2 miles then the trail turned to a path that you needed a mountain bike to navigate, so disappointed we returned to our car. We were excited to read about a trail around Charlottsville but very disappointed to learn that it wasn't a reality.

High Bridge Trail

Mt Bike Single Track

November, 2017 by bburnside1222

Yes, there is Single Track at High Bridge State Park. Two loops! One beginner and one advanced.

The Early Trail is a 1. 5 mile rolly flowy loop with no real technical trail features. But, there are surprises. First surprise is how sweet this loop flows. Second surprise was how some relatively simple looking sections really pushed the skills to ride at speed. Very tight in a couple spots and fast in others.

The Burnside Technical loop is 2.8 miles of constant something and a bit of everything. Over 300' of climbing for aerobic challenge intermingled with fast flow sections of berms and drop-thrus. A couple Roller Coasters that can throw you, so be careful.

The loops offer some delightful technical riding to the otherwise flat and boring rail trail. So, if MT biking is your thing and you are considering a family outing come out to Farmville and spend a day on the High Bridge Trail. The loops are located 1.5 miles East of the Farmville downtown plaza about half way towards the parking lot at River Road.

High Bridge Trail

Nice trail

September, 2017 by timmy0728

Drove out from Colonial Heights. Started run in Farmville.
Trail nice, flat, marked well. However, a bit boring. Not much to see until bridge, 4+ miles from town. Bridge pretty cool. If in the area, take advantage of the ability to get some miles in.

Great family trail

August, 2017 by saltlifeforus

We were very happy with this ride! Great trail for families with young children. Our 12-year old had fun and we were able to easily pull our daughter along in a bicycle trailer since the path is a nice smooth surface the entire way. Very scenic, saw lots of wildlife, and was able to stop and let the kids play in the river at the end!

High Bridge Trail

Water

Liked the trail but I only found one water fountain on it, which was at Farmville. Also it would be nice if they had a connecting trail from twin lakes state park to the trail.

Virginia Blue Ridge Railway Trail

great leisurely ride

May, 2017 by jseapy

Just getting back on my bicycle and wanted a non-hilly ride to encourage my efforts at getting some exercise. The trailhead was well-marked and lots of parking. A pleasant ride as most of the trail is shaded. The scenery is lovely with the river adjacent. We went on a weekday morning and there were very few others on the trail. The just-under 14 miles was a perfect first ride.

Family friendly trail. Really nice how it is right beside the Piney river!

Virginia Blue Ridge Railway Trail

Great Ride

April, 2017 by pat teredo. s

What a way to spend a Saturday morning in April. As another reviewer stated it is a hidden gem in the mountains. The trail is relatively flat, there is one slight grade that is very doable for any rider. My only complaint is that i wished i lived closer to ride it more often. If you are staying in the Charlottesville area you should definitely give this one a try. You won't be disappointed in the beauty.

High Bridge Trail

It's all about the bridge

April, 2017 by bruceamiller@comcast.net

A friend and I took a break from driving to ride the High Bridge Trail east from Farmville to the bridge. The trail is decent crushed limestone, wide enough to ride 2 abreast. The scenery was the same until you get to the bridge, which is about a half-mile long. Great view from it. Photographing the bridge is a challenge, as hard to get a side view without walking a ways.

High Bridge Trail

wow - pretty cool

March, 2017 by jrutch

we started in farmville ... rode to rice ... went over the big bridge ... great surface ... the occasional restroom ... very very very (did i say very) few road crossings ... we want to come back and stay in farmville and do the whole trail eastward one day, westward the other (very doable as it would be about 30 or so each day as farmville is fairly in the middle)

Virginia Blue Ridge Railway Trail

very nice, level, benches ,and some picnic tables, river views

October, 2016 by orion45

biked this 10-09-2016, in morning.....Peacefull,.quiet,beautifull Piney River views, only 2 other bikers, nice packed gravel trail, easy riding, i did it with my hybrid w/700x 35 tires,no problem, but wider tire footprint would be better, close to Blue Ridge Parkway....trail clean and well maintained..last 5 miles is one way (you need to return on same path) Abit isolated, so be sure to have a pal, or spare tube/kit/.etc, just in case...highly recommend!
