The trail is nicely wooded (shady), but the narrow board walks and 90-degree turns make it difficult for bikes to navigate. I think it's great for walkers/runners, but I won't be coming back with my bike.
I've been threatened twice on trail. Just walking then passed by a guy , he got about 70 ft in front of me and started screaming I'm gonna f ING kill you, and kept screaming threats. There are no police or emergency phones on trail so you are on your own. I'm sure there are drug deals going on with all the paraphernalia on trail. Bullet holes in signs. It's not a safe place for anyone and it's just a matter of time till they start finding bodies. If clayton county is going to have these nature trails, then they need police there either on golf carts,horseback, or bikes and a # to call for quick response. Instead you call police and they don't want to break a sweat having to walk the trail to investigate and if they do its hours after the issue. If you go to trail be aware and on guard. I'm in my 50s and don't have alot of options to get out and exercise and the one place convenient to me and my tax dollars pay for is to dangerous. I think I want a refund.
I have the great fortune to live a short :45 minute commute from this gem and ride it 3x on a good week. (Powder Springs to Rockmart & back) I’ve ridden other paths and will continue to try new ones (to me). That said, I’ve yet to find anything that comes close to this one in terms of distance, maintenance and natural beauty.
Came over from Birmingham, Al to start riding paved trails in Ga. Me and my kids ride electric scooters and there were signs posted everywhere for no electric vehicles on the trail. We went on a Sunday and took the chance and kept riding. Only saw a handful of people actually on trail. But there was a good bit of busy road crossings. But overall a nice trail to enjoy.
Great Trail! Can be muddy, parts were closed. Be sure wait 2-3 days after a rain!
Don’t go when it has rained in the last 4 days! It’s so muddy, part of it was closed…. However it still a great trail! We biked it. Not too many people either. Close to food, restaurants, a splash pad etc… really fun and definitely recommend.
Closed at the Lindbergh Dr trailhead. The Cheshire Bridge rd trailhead is hard to fund, homeless folks, trash, bad. Stay away.Too bad, because this would be a good link from Brookhaven to path 400 and on to the beltline
Rode from Anniston Alabama, to piedmont, then to Alabama/Georgia line, and onward to cedartown, rock mart, Dallas and to the beginning of the trail near Symirna. This was done at different times from different trailheads, but was accomplished. Extremely beautiful and pleasing. Mostly flat, with gradual inclines and curves and only a few steep hills, east of Cedartown. Would recommend this to anyone who enjoys biking, walking. Well maintained!
I was born in Carrollton and my relatives lived and still live here. As a child I spent a lot of time in Carrollton in the 70s in the 80s. I now live in Oxford Alabama, but sometimes when I come to visit, it’s nice to know this trail is here. I have ridden the entire. Length and it is very nice. I plan to come back and ride a lot more¿
I didn't read the reviews on hilly the trails are. It was exhilarating!I enjoyed this trail. Just make sure that you have good brakes on your bike!
I ride on this path once or twice a year, starting on the Noonday Creek Trail off of Bells Ferry that connects to it. It's a bit confusing as maps don't show it connecting to the river, I guess it is other paths it connects to.
From the mountain to Marietta is a nice section. The tight area another reviewer mentioned is the ramp to a pedestrian bridge crossing, it makes a 180 turn which requires some precision riding. The path goes along the railroad tracks just off Marietta Square. There is often an art exhibition along the path at this point.
As you continue, you end up alongside a cemetery and there isn't an actual path section at this point but you just ride up the road out of the cemetery. Continue straight and the path picks up again. At this point, the path is very underutilized. It connects to Atlanta Rd and follows alongside Dobbins, finally reaching Windy Hill Rd. It then continues to downtown Smyrna, where I like to stop for something to drink.
Beyond here, I haven't ridden in awhile but the path takes a left and goes up Spring Street. You then go around Cumberland Mall and you can connect to a path that goes down 41 to the river or a path that connects to the Bob Callan Trail, which goes to the River.
There are a lot of busy road crossings and driveways entering/exiting commercial areas so be careful, especially of right turn on red drivers who don't look or speed up past the stop line. This is a suburban route without a lot of hammerfest sections.
BTW, all but the first photo are not the M2R, they are pics from within Kennesaw Mountain Park and do not allow bicycles.
