Folly Branch Trail

A Neighborhood Trail

February, 2020 by foreman.becky@gmail.com

This is a pleasant stroll on a well-maintained neighborhood trail. It's a paved, pine-needle strewn path that winds through the woods in an upscale community. I was here on a rainy day, mid-week, so there was no one else on the trail. There is a small lake, a stream, and some wetlands, so I imagine that the birds, especially in the spring, are quite active. It's barely three miles total, and that's only if you include the side trail, but if you walk end-to-end, both directions, you can get a nice little work-out. It's a nice trail for trail runners.

Lone Wolf Trail

Mid Winter Walk

January, 2020 by pachroseu

Just short of a mile, this trail will still make you work a little. With its curved and sloped walkway overlooking the marsh, it still gives a silent peace even though its wedged between housing communities. And again, although bare from its winter weeks, the lack of greenery allows you to over look the marshlands and see nature's beauty further than the tree line of the trail. It leaves the mind to just wait for the early spring months to watch it all regrow and awe at the canopy of the trees arch over the trail. Very neighborly walkers, dog walkers, and bikers.

This is the best trail I have ever ridden!

Baltimore and Annapolis Trail

Smooth, Well-maintained

January, 2020 by rick.box.9

The mostly flat, completely paved trail makes it ideal for beginners. It also connects (on the eastern end) to bike lanes that can take you into Annapolis and (on the western end) to more paved trails (via the John Overstreet connector, itself a paved trail). Although there are many surface street crossings, my experience has been that most drivers are courteous and will often yield right of way to cyclists.

Well kept paths. Lots of opportunity to see wildlife - saw woodpeckers, an eagle, and loads of other birds. Signs of recent beaver activity. Great walk for families.

Fairfax County Parkway Trail

Thank you for repaiving recently south of Rt. 7 to the W&OD

October, 2019 by benjamhale

Love this trail and would like to see more roads with a parallel trail beside it at a safe distance from traffic.

Please Please Please, complete the Fairfax County Parkway trail by installing the trail north of Route 7 to Grandview Place. This is a very small section that is left without a path and forces cyclist and pedestrians into traffic.

Thanks

Stony Run Trail

Not great for bikes

October, 2019 by betsylstocksdale

It is a gorgeous trail. However, it is narrow, it has sudden dips, and there is coarse gravel on the path, throughout. Tree roots abound. There are places where someone has placed wooden platforms in the middle of the path, which are nearly impossible to avoid, and cannot be ridden over! I will return and walk the dog, but I'll never attempt to ride it again (after wiping out 3 times, very painfully).

Capital Crescent Trail

beautiful

October, 2019 by ioanacartagena

This was my first time running on the capital crescent trail and It was stunning! The views are incredible! You can even see the Washington monument a bit further down Capital Crescent after passing Fletchers Cove. I am looking forward to doing this trail again! The trail is flat which is nice and easy to run on, completely flat and paved .

Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park

Hancock to West End

October, 2019 by mikehood71

Rode this trail Friday October 4 took canal towpath west until the second bridge connection and continued until the pave trail ended. Towpath was nice and dry but rough ( should have worn gloves ) Went back on paved Western Maryland Rail Trail. There were 2 gigantic parking lots which had no cars not sure if they are necessary but nice. The trail has grown longer since the last time I was here.

Washington and Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park (W&OD)

Far from home but worth it

October, 2019 by mikehood71

First time at this trail. Went to Purcellville Saturday October 5 after riding Brunswick to Harpers Ferry. Lots of parking even for the big minivan. Heading East out of town the trail is smooth and flat following the power line right of way. Total ride was around 40 miles seemed easier going East. Many rest areas and food stops along my ride. Kind of cool but nice weather. Also 90 percent of the cars stopped to let me cross at the many intersections. Not used to this and strange ( I am from Ohio )
