Three Notch Trail

Inconsistency on the trail

September, 2021 by joneslesliem

Visited the trail today at the chancellors run end after 0.36 of a mile the paved ground disappeared at the end of the Walmart (which put me in the street) and picked back up at the McDonald’s with no warning to trail users on how to connect to the other end. This was very confusing and interfered with my timed run. There are no proper signs welcoming you to the trail.

Indian Head Rail Trail

Almost made it!

September, 2021 by wstewart003_tl

Woke up this morning and decided to find one of the trails closer to me that people rave about. So with the Indian Head Trail being only an hour away I decided to give it a try. Only 2 months back on a bike after 30 something years I can say this trail was worth the drive. Scenic, clean and very well taken care of.

Barn kitties update

September, 2021 by c8

Even after almost two years (of no reviews), the barn kitties mentioned in a couple of the earlier reviews are still there! I couldn't believe it! In fact, I thought, "there's no way those cats are there now", but there was something in the middle of the trail ahead...I thought it might be a groundhog, but it didn't move as I got closer. In fact, it was a barn cat, lounging in the sun, and as soon as I stopped, it sauntered right up to me and gave me so much affection! Never even wandered away! *I* was the one who finally had to leave. Also, another barn cat came sauntering over; it was friendly enough, but was easily bored, lol, and just as soon walked back to the barn.

As for the trail itself, it is still well-maintained (maintenance was even going on that day) and a pleasant ride thru country. I parked at the Charlotte Hall Library, which has a bathroom (important!). I live an hour away and I'd say it's worth the drive. You are not just biking/walking thru woods, so there is some variation in scenery; woods, farms, backyards, a couple of places with horses.

Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail

Very Nice Quiet Trail

September, 2021 by xenonra57

Our first time on this trail. For cyclist I would recommend a mountain bike, skinny tires would not be fun. Quiet except for the gunshots in the distance the first 1 to 2 miles but hey you are out in the country. Nice tree covered trail reminds me of the Poolesville Md stretch of the C&O Canal Trail. relatively flat. We did not complete the full trail but will most definitely be back. The very few people we ran into on the trail were very friendly.

Signs Needed

September, 2021 by mlawrence301

Signs for riders to take caution or maybe even to STOP should be posted at the crosswalk located at Pinecrest Road overpass. Riders are can only see one direction depending on what way they are riding due to sound barriers. On coming traffic from East will only see them when they emerge from sound barriers.

Easton Rails-to-Trails

Great for walking

August, 2021 by zwmt6fsw9v

I really enjoy walking the bike trail. People along the trail have been very friendly. I would love for more trails to be installed in Easton. It such a quaint town. As far as the comment about trash. It’s not below me to pick up from litter bugs. I carry my trash picker on every walk with a bag. There are plenty of trash receptacle along the path. Earth day is everyday! Love the beautiful trees and plants along the path.

Mount Vernon Trail

Scenic trail with courteous users

August, 2021 by jesnr41

I stayed in Crystal City for a week of training. I found this trail mid-week and spent the next two evenings riding it. I followed the sign directing me to DC and ended up at the Lincoln Memorial. I encountered so many friendly walkers, runner and bikers. I found that if you let walkers/runners know you’re “on the left” to pass many actually thanked me for that. And, the trail crosses roads several times even the drivers were courteous enough to stop to let me cross. Also, there is a park near the airport where people bring food and chairs to watch planes takeoff and land. They’re really so close above you that it makes for an interesting point among the trail.

Very pleasant path with smooth new asphalt. Busier on weekends but wide open during the week. Does cross a few busy roads. Many places to park along the trail.

Busy with bikers and walkers. Lots of roots creating a bumping ride in some places but overall a nice ride. Parking at Belle Haven Park is a perfect location for riding into DC. I would recommend this trail.

Mount Vernon Trail

Inline Skating

July, 2021 by thomasbelvin

I would not recommend inline skating on this trail further South than Alexandria, other than to advanced skaters, because the trail is better suited for bicycles or pedestrians. The first 5 miles going North from Mount Vernon are hilly with a few sharp curves and tend to have wet areas with leaves on the trail. There are several wooden bridges that would be slippery if wet and parts of the trail have tree root damage or rough patches. The trail merges onto the street in old town Alexandria that can be busy with traffic, other trail users, and visitors crossing the street. The trail is scenic for the Washington, DC area and has lots of other uses on the weekends.

Great Trail

July, 2021 by moses883

This is one off my favorite trail to ride, it’s well maintained and always clean. It’s a good train for a beginner cyclist looking for a nice flat trail.

413 Rail to Trail

July, 2021 by poconojack

We rode this 7/3/21 late morning and saw 5 other bikes and a few walking. Flat, straight, fun . Trail ends just before Crisfield and further down 413 there are bike lanes in town.
