Easton Rail-Trail

Very lovely in-town trail!

July, 2024 by tpslucks

While the trail in town is very lovely, relatively short, it’s very clean and enough meandering through green space, I really enjoy the less known western spur more. That trail spur on the opposite side of Easton Parkway is really awesome. I love riding through the well laid curves and tree canopies. Enough trail benches and smooth pavement. Love it!

Mount Vernon Trail

Trail needs better maintenance south of Woodrow Wilson Bridge

July, 2024 by bmyer

Rode the trail from Jones Point Park to Mount Vernon last week. Most all of the wooden bridges are newer and add to the ambience, but don't provide a good riding surface for my MTB with Schwalbe Silento 26x1.75 tires. As others have noted, the pushed up roots have been ground down somewhat, but not smooth, until about a 1/2 mile from Mount Vernon where the pushed up roots are simply marked and the trail becomes unrideable. On the return, I rode on the George Washington Parkway to get past the badly pushed up roots section. Then, I rode as far as I could on lightly travelled neighborhood streets running parallel to the trail, which were substantially smoother. Then proceeded back on the trail to Jones Point Park. Overall, it wasn't a very enjoyable ride and likely won't seek to do it again.

Henson Creek Trail

A hidden gem

July, 2024 by rdroll

Rode this trail twice this month. Lightly used with only one street crossing. Only encountered one area washed out by the creek that had a gravel bypass. Watch out for a big bump just before a bridge. I hit it going to fast and it took out my front tire. They have added a bike repair station at the Tucker Road Ice Rink with a stand, tools and a pump.

Indian Head Rail Trail

Nice trail for walking and biking

June, 2024 by williamlim89

This is a nice trail for walking and biking. There is a good sized parking lot in the Waldorf area and parking along the trail as well. It is definitely worth a visit.

Three Notch Trail

Beautiful Country Views…

June, 2024 by allen.tinasia

I haven’t seen any recent reviews regarding this location so I wanted to write an update. I am an inline skater & enjoy new trails to try. It’s a beautiful location for the most part. Very quiet & a nice long trail with minimum elevation. It is surrounded by an Omish community, & farmlands throughout the entire route. Although it was beautiful views of the land & farms, it also had downsides. The roads were not very smooth, but still nice enough to skate on. There was animal poop all on the trail you have to avoid if you care about your wheels. It also smells like farmland. Do with that as you wish. Happy Riding!

Indian Head Rail Trail

Amazing trail !

June, 2024 by allen.tinasia

I haven’t anything new so I thought I would add one. I love this route! I am an inline skater and it is a very smooth ride. It is not super crowded & very peaceful. The people are really nice & I never have any issues.

love the trail!

Very nice trail. I just discovered the western spur the other day and it’s very nice. Was curious that it’s not on the trail map though.

Mount Vernon Trail

Root Cracks Ground Down

June, 2024 by evada

With the exception of the mile just north of Mt Vernon, all the root cracks have been ground down to nearly smooth. Would probably be acceptable on a road bike, but more comfortable on hybrid or gravel bike.

Mount Vernon Trail

Scenic, bad condition

March, 2024 by jaded1

Wonderfully scenic but woefully in need of maintenance. Congress cuts National Park Service funding so rich people don’t have to pay taxes.

Chesapeake Beach Railway Trail

nice easy walk with good views.

January, 2024 by 737doc

Trail requires a short walk through a parking lot to reach the boardwalk trail head. TrailLink said parking was available in the neighboring neighborhoods of richfield station and bayview hills, this is incorrect. We couldn't find any parking in richfield station and bayview hills was marked with multiple private property no trespassing signs as well as painted reserved spots for residents, and is clearly a private community not set up for trail parking. We went on the towns website and found parking as described behind kellams field adjacent to the water park. The trail is well maintained and easy to walk as there is very little elevation change. It is a nice amenity but isn't a day hike or time consuming activity, nice for a quick easy walk with some nice views. There was one loose dog someone felt they didn't need to have leashed, and some fast moving bicycle traffic that was quite close on the boardwalk section. The bicycles may or may not warn you of their impending passing so be aware.. The water views are nice and offer some good photo ops for birds.

Mt Vernon Trail

December, 2023 by najean

Rode from Mt Vernon toward DC , 16 miles out and back with temps in high 40s in mid December, midweek. Love this trail! Beautiful views of Potomac; nice variety of flat and hilly terrain through urban and forested areas. Impressed by “bike patrol” checking in on my stop. 4 star review due to tree root bumps (mostly marked), and close proximity to Memorial High ( constant humming of cars passing).

Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail

Bumpy!

December, 2023 by zx8q54srfm

As others have said - this trail is very bumpy. Much of the trail still has railroad ties going across it. I did on a touring bike and even deflated the tires partway into the trail. I still called it after 8 miles. Just not much fun. Hope they will improve it a bit sometime because I lived the countryside and overhanging tree branches etc. Really beautiful. Good walking trail or mountain bikes.
