I do not recommend this trail at all for bike riding. Very slippery and they dont mark those areas even after the do a morning check..slipped 3 times with injury. Warning do not bike at this trail !! Plus they have holes in some Planck areas

Big Creek Greenway

Mixed Review

July, 2018 by johnjursic

Lower segment is good for cycling. Upper segment I would not recommend for anything other than running. It is almost all wooden boardwalk and it is almost always slimy and slick. It is so unbelievably slick even the most seasoned cyclist will fall. And if you don’t go extremely early on the weekend, it gets pretty crowded. Trail route needs to be better marked as I found myself riding off the trail and ending up at a trailhead having to turn around a couple times. Overall it’s a solid option given the area is so densely populated.

Stone Mountain Trail

Great for walking terrible for biking

June, 2018 by us4

This is ok for leisure riding, but not for road bike training. There are stop signs, and stop lights all over the trail. Just to many road crossings to enjoy. I was thinking Rails to Trails, which typically means long long stretches without road crossings. This is really better suited for walking.

Cool tunnel on a hot day

June, 2018 by coconutbay

Started at Tara Drummond trailhead. There are real restrooms and water there. Headed west to the tunnel (9.8 miles) It must have been 15 degrees cooler inside. Very good experience on a 90 degree day.

The trail is quite scenic, complete with sections where the trees canopy over it. Didn't see any animals at all, but we cycled from noon til about 2:15 so they were probably all taking a siesta.

Seemed like we were going uphill as we pedaled west. Not too bad, even for recumbent trikes.

Pavement is concrete but in very good condition. I just wish there was water and restrooms at the tunnel. We were slugging back a lot of water during the 20 mile round trip ride and that was our only letdown.

South River Trail

Lush and (as of yet) unpopulated

May, 2018 by overstreet20

Been coming here for the last 7mo and have never passed more than one or two people, each visit. As it is still undiscovered to the city, my dog gets the pleasure of running beside me on the bike without worry of heavy foot or bike traffic around. There is something to discover on every visit, if on foot (and have the curious nature about you)... including all of the seasonal edible fruits and 'weeds' that one finds in a "City in a Forest." A great section for exploring Atlanta as an abundant and vibrant marvel of the Piedmont.

Epic Trip with Kids (12 and 14)

April, 2018 by jbulot

Was planning on this being an overnight bike trip, as the kids have never done more than a 10 mile ride. We packed overnight gear, etc. Unfortunately, the forecast for the 2nd day turned sour and the kids decided to push through and finish the ride in one day! they did great - largely on the original rail/paved trail. Towards Rockmart and Cedar Town, it diverted through some downtown areas and some of the uphills were rough..but by and a large a great trail! Both kids left with a great deal more confidence than when they started!

Scenic and long. Great trail to rack up milieage. Pavement is excellent and we'll maintained. Plenty of rest stops for the weary. Go get it.

South River Trail

Best kept secret, so far

April, 2018 by maplover2

Rode the 6 miles of concrete trail from Entrenchment Creek trailhead, over to and through Gresham Park, alongside Barack Obama School and past Sugar Creek golf course (safety netting in place), under 285 (cool) and over to the Georgia State University GPC campus. Excellent condition, very few users, lots of sites to see, parks, schools, golf courses, and it will eventually link to the eastern stretch of the trail that runs from MLK High School near Panola Shoals out to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit which is also a nice trail. Fun fact, in January 2018, a portion was renamed the Michelle Obama Trail in honor of her commitment to getting young folks moving. Sign in place at GSU campus end of trail.

Awesome Trail...

March, 2018 by tuckerty

The trail was awesome, let's just get that out of the way!
New to the Ga. area and first time riding on the trail...I was Jacked!
The path, the scenery, people actually slide over "when you say, on your left" all are great!
My downfall (and that's just me) the trail isn't clearly marked.
As I was riding, hit a 3 way split...to the right deadend back of a school yard. Slightly to left & up a slight ramp and then left turn to what seems to be out to the busy street. Hard left, sharp right, up a slight ramp back on the trail. Rolling along, then the trail turned off right and up over bridge, (I didn't and didn't know) I found myself on a different trail and riding along side a few soccer fields and a nice challenging hill.
All in all...the ride is awesome, put in approx. 10 mi. total.
I truly recommend it!

Stone Mountain Trail

Centennial Olympic Park to Stone Mountain

March, 2018 by rondahardesty

This was our first trail ride, had a great time. The trail is beautiful. Yes there are a few spots that you have to ride on the road but it is easy and safe. 95 percent of the ride is on a paved trail. One harry spot that is about 500 feet but other than that, this trail is super. DO IT !!

Whetstone Creek Trail

Good for Walking the Dog

February, 2018 by ejillgriffin

I was delighted when this trail opened in my neighborhood!
My Belgian Sheepdogs and I take advantage of the fenced-in paved path for a nice off-leash walk, as often as possible.
The raised wooden walkway that winds through the forest is beautiful, and in the Springtime, the ancient Wisteria Forest is spectacular in full bloom!
