Rockingham Recreational Rail Trail (Portsmouth Branch)

Nice views

October, 2024 by arlene.deardorff

We started in Manchester and rode east. The first 3 miles the surface was packed gravel with fall leaves but no rocks. We rode another 2 miles and found the path very bumpy with thicker gravel and rocks protruding. We have 2 inch tires but it wasn’t fun for us. We wanted to bike to Raymond but turned around. We have biked on other packed trails in NH without any issues but this path was worse after 3 miles.

Granite Town Rail-Trail

Rustic and difficult in parts for bikes other than mountain bikes

October, 2024 by georgerisktaker

We did this trail with e-bikes with 2.1" tires. This all-dirt trail is very rustic and narrow in parts. From the north, after .5 miles you will start to feel the presence of tree roots which at times are very dense - so dense that they are difficult to ride over at any speed. From about .8 to 1.2 miles the trail goes up and down a hill which is all rocks and anything other than a mountain bike will need to be walked.

Sugar River Trail

Not for bicycles!

October, 2024 by jimblackjim7

The scenery is very nice which is why I gave it more than one star. The surface is sand. Sometimes pretty well packed. Other times quite loose. It was doable with our hybrid bikes, but a lot of work and not much fun. Add to this a steady stream of dirt bikes and 4x4s kicking up dust and spewing fumes! Just not our kind of cycling.

Sept 30th not a good trail ! We ran into several meth heads and police taking them into custody, Scarey stuff to say the least. We will not be back.

West Foss Farm Trail

Nice easy trail until it crosses the stream then turns into more challenging path. Small elevation changes. Lots of mosquitoes since it goes next to a stream/bog/swamp

Cotton Valley Rail Trail

cotton valley trail

So this trail has a hidden risk. Going from trail on the side of the rails to inside the rails can be tricky. My wife fell twice and skinned her knee pretty good. Also trail is narrow and has lots of walkers with dogs. Views are good near wolfboro but after that it’s a tree tunnel. Don’t need to do it again.

Winnipesaukee River Trail

well maintained with beautiful views of the river

August, 2024 by brenda.viglienzoni

This trail was lovely. I did the entire trail both ways in a couple of hours. Mostly flat and well maintained. Began in Tilton on Rt 140 and road to the end in Franklin. Many nice places to stop along the way. Took some great pictures. It was a bit confusing when the trail ends and you are routed down Main Street in Tilton. I almost turned around at this point. Honestly It’s really not that far through town. Just be careful of cars backing out of parking spots. The vistas are worth it, keep going. Looking forward to checking out another trail.

Eastern Trail

comfortable ride; well marked trail

August, 2024 by philgautreau

We cycled 20 miles, starting at bug Light in South Portland to Scarborough. Mostly flat, asphalt surface. Some riding on bike path along street traffic but most riding is on the separate bike path along water and in green areas. Highly recommend for an easy ride.

Martin H. Burns Wildlife Management Area Trail

flooded

August, 2024 by qgtwb28wbh

The trail no longer runs through. It is flooded year round due to beaver activity. Not sure if DCR or National Grid maintains it but it has been flooded for a couple years now.
