Rivanna Trail

hiking great, road bike or hybrid… no

April, 2022 by scott.pillath

If you’re looking to go biking, do not use Azealia Park. The trail is best fit for hiking not any kind of biking. If one person comes the opposite direction you will probably run into a tree because the trail is very thin.

Chessie Nature Trail

Smooth, scenic, & not crowded

March, 2022 by lucinda.f.peters

Biked from Lexington trailhead to Buena Vista trailhead. Follows the River so don’t follow Google Maps because it will take you off the trail¿ Loved seeing the Cows, deer, birds, squirrels, river, bridges, rock, old railway tower and markers. Quiet ¿¿

Greenbrier River Trail

Almost heaven - if there was more variety

March, 2022 by bikeridesandbreweries

Only a 15-minute drive from the famed Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs lies the southern trailhead of the Greenbrier River Trail, a 77-mile rail-trail that cuts through the center of West Virginia. While green mountains abound, they are hidden from view on the flat, tree-lined trail which hugs the Greenbrier River as it threads the valleys of the Appalachian Mountain Region. In fact, rarely was the river out of sight as we pedaled along this “Zen trail” (our term for a trail that lacks visual variety - which some people prefer).
Wildlife is abundant here and being in black bear country, we were sure to keep up a constant and loud conversation in the hope of dissuading any from lumbering onto the trail. (No, this wasn’t an imaginary concern – like the sound of dueling banjos — bear scat had been pointed out to us on a previous ride and we’d seen bears in the mountains on several occasions.)
The trail was cool, shady, and well-maintained and we passed only a handful of others on the trail. There was no nearby civilization, so we were glad to have brought plenty of water. This time we only rode the southern end, but hope to go back for the northern end in the future!
A brewery and a fantastic distillery are not far from the trail back near the airport outside of Lewisburg.

Wonderful trail! Trail was well kept and smooth riding. Camp sites about every 10 miles or so, some with bathrooms/picnic tables/fire pit. Just know and prepare for no cell service 95% of the time. Enjoy your ride!

Worthwhile historical Railway Trail Experience - Bike, Hike or Run (6.5+ One Way)

September, 2021 by neschultz3

Checked out trail while in the area with our single speed fatties and throughly enjoyed the Ride. Access to the trail is limited to the Piney River and Rose Mill trailheads and not the far western end point. Getting to the end point from Piney River was a smooth roll that goes along and across the River. Very nice bridges and shaded hard-packed surfaces. Trail was frequented by more runners than cyclists during the Saturday morning I was there. Nice place for a long run. Everyone knew to move the right and we pedaled single file. Didn't see any horses, but that could have been entirely possible.
Discovered many interesting historical events about the area and why this was built. This place is a gem. Short, sweet and easy 75 minute ride for the wife and I. Slightly off the beaten path. I'd stop there again.

Greenbrier River Trail

Amazingly Beautiful!

September, 2021 by utpaduke

Four of us drove from Raleigh NC to ride on 12-14 Sept 2021. On Sunday afternoon we rode Mile Marker 3 to MM15 out and back from Caldwell; this trail-head is very close to I64. We then drove 45 miles to Marlinton, and stayed at the Locust Hill B&B. This cabin is rustic with a Fantastic Porch and Awesome views for enjoying coffee and beer. The cabin is only 1/2 mile from trail! We rode out n back MM56 to MM36 toward Caldwell on Monday and out n back MM56 to MM68 toward Cass on Teus. Most of the time these trail sections followed the beautiful, clear Green Brier River! The trail was in GREAT Condition - no ruts, no rumble strips on this trail! Using Marlinton as our 2-night stay location allowed for convenient out n back riding without the use of a shuttle. Next time I plan to ride all the way down-river in one day! I plan to convert my 4-bike rack to a 3-bike rack for easier loading/unloading of bikes. One rider will begin with us, but only ride out for his desired distance and then back to the truck. He will then drive and pick us up at MM 3!

Blue Ridge Tunnel Trail

Blue Ridge Tunnel Trail

Awesome trail for pets

September, 2021 by hftxnqd576

My family and I took our Husky with us and all had an enjoyable day. The entire trail is very well maintained. The inside of the tunnel is extremely nice but the sides do tend to get washed out from the water. Be sure to stay close to the center to avoid slipping and falling. We took headlamps and it made the trek easy.

John W. Warner Parkway Trail

Well paved, not a lot of signage. Good parking. You have have cross traffic quite a bit which wasn't great for my ride..
