Mascoutin Valley State Trail

A nice country trail in 2 segments but hard to find trailheads and parking

July, 2026 by y1htak2

Made up of 2 nice country trails with mostly decent crushed limestone surface separated into 2 parts by highway 23 which is an unsafe, busy, fast highway with a pretty wide gravel shoulder. There are no toilet facilities. Some biting flies if you stop but we didn’t get any ticks.

We first attempted to ride the Ripon to Berlin segment. In Ripon you can park slightly past the start of the trail off Locust where there is a nice parking area and pavilion. We only got about 6 miles or so before we had to stop for a very large downed tree. We could have stopped at Vines and Rushes Winery but it was a little early for us.

At the Berlin side of the trail there was a sign in a grassy area for parking across the street from where the grassy trail begins at Berlin Feed. Didn't look like that end of the trail got much use. It wasn’t worth getting tandem bike out of van to ride just a few miles so didn’t ride that part.

Then we rode our bike from Rosendale to Fond du Lac. We parked along the side of Zamzow (neighborhood) Park on Willow Creek Rd just off North St. We rode the short segment to Hwy 26 and then turned around and rode to Fond du Lac where trail ends on VVV with trail head parking.

New London to Shiocton 06/16/26

June, 2026 by darkwolf5423

trail head parking in New London was open. starting out the trail was ok but further east it was over grown with weeds and tall grass, a couple miles from from Shiocton the trail was closed from the flood washing out the trail. I emailed the county parks department hopefully it improves and the washed out part of the trail gets repaired.

I read reviews from April about trees down this is June I rode from Amherst to Scandinavia didn’t make it because trees are still down. Who is supposed to remove down trees on the trails?

April 2026 extensive tree damage blocking trail

April, 2026 by teribeyer44

Due to recent storms (ice and heavy rains) the trail is blocked. Biking would is impossible. The first 3 miles of trail from Scandinavia toward Amherst Jct. had at least 20 large trees down across the trail. The locals said the trail from Scandinavia toward Manawa was in a similar condition. The trail winds through beautiful woodland. Hopefully some groups with chain saws and ATV’s can help with cleanup and clearing the trail.

I rode a recumbent trike from Howard to Pulaski. The trail was in good condition and a fairly smooth ride.

Green Circle Trail

Good Trail, mostly

September, 2025 by julieganser

The trail is mostly beautiful. Almost all crushed gravel, which we didn’t expect. In some parts the gravel is thick and loose. The only asphalt is on county roads. the concrete, as expected, was on sidewalks in town. The boardwalks were fun but be careful if you are riding on 3 wheels. If I hadn’t just rode the Heart of Vilas and the Root River State Trails, which are as close to perfect as you can get in this region, I would’ve given the Green Circle a 5 star review.

Trail from Wittenberg to Birnamwood is grass covered crushed limestone. They do cut the grass, but not particularly bike friendly.
