General Booth Boulevard Trail

cool bridge!

February, 2021 by tom.joy

Not a clear connection from Boardwalk Trail but with Trail Link maps, you’ll find it. Very cool to go over the big bridge. Then follows the busy highway thru residential and business areas including the Aquarium! Partially shaded. Sometimes bumpy from roots or uneven sidewalks.

Cross County Trail (VA)

Great in sections

January, 2021 by elizabeth.scuderi

I ride this trail regularly. First of all you must have a hybrid, gravel or mountain bike to traverse several sections of gravel. My favorite section is between West Springfield and Route 50 because you pass by beautiful Lake Accotink.

Blue Ridge Tunnel Trail

Great Experience

January, 2021 by mancini5

First... let me say I was nervous about the tunnel! But know that you can see “the light at the end of the tunnel” so I wasn’t claustrophobic,as I had feared. Know that they mean it when they say lights are required. Otherwise, you are not visible to other hikers even when you’re within arms length! We began at the Afton end and although we arrived before 10am all parking was taken. We ended up parking at the post office. As you exit the tunnel on the Waynesboro end there is a good uphill hike...a very distinct path/trail. The entire path is 2.5 one way. We saw plenty of dogs on the trail which was another question I had... we’re dogs allowed? As an added bonus it snowed! We saw

Rocky Run Stream Valley Trail

Beautiful trail amongst the woods and along the stream.

Blue Ridge Tunnel Trail

Overcrowded. Rude People. Limited Parking.

January, 2021 by kevin295

While this trail is good, you better get there early. Parking is incredibly limited and if you park out of the marked area, your car will get towed. Rude people abound.... Once in the tunnel, it is FULL of people with all manner of lights and kids shining flashlights in peoples eyes. There are better trails without the parking and crowd hassles.

Powell River Trail

A gem

January, 2021 by 3nucizpxs7

January 1st 2021 I brought my dogs with for an hour’s easy walk. Parked in the parking lot just by the steel bridge. The parking lot is diagonally opposite the spot the GPS brought me to. The parking lot is opposite the Valero gas station.
You first cross a bridge spanning a huge area of Powell River, with roaring river sounds and lovely views. Then you walk through a short tunnel (43 feet long). The entire path is 1.2 miles each way. The end of the trail is just past the second (longer) tunnel. Dogs got a drink in one of the little streams. Did not see any bears despite it being fairly warm at 55 degrees. I felt safe walking there on my own with my dogs. Well worth the visit!!

Blue Ridge Tunnel Trail

Great Experience

December, 2020 by amy.harperva

Nicely maintained trail. The west side is a little steep. The actual tunnel is flat. Make sure to have a flashlight as it is pitch black in the tunnel. It’s a beautiful area and neat experience. Lots of history!

Virginia Capital Trail

You know you want to ride it!

December, 2020 by tom.morgan.100

A wonderful 50 mile, paved, off road bike trail between Jamestown (first capital) and Richmond (current capital), Virginia! We did a video of our ride this fall that is on our YouTube channel, Bent on Bike Trails.

Lick Run Greenway

A beautiful greenway.

November, 2020 by ockham3

Lick Run is my favorite among all the Roanoke Greenway, but it is a bit short for a biker. Nice hill climb though. I usually begin at Wiley Drive on the Roanoke River Greenway and ride to Norwich then to Black Dog Salvage and on down 10 Street to 460. There is no bike trail on Orange Avenue, but there is unused sidewalk alongside the heavy traffic. Then to Lick Run and to the Mall!
