Linton Hall Road Trail

wide sidewalk

August, 2017 by jill.lepp

It is a wide sidewalk with plenty of room to pass people. It is smooth and very stroller friendly. The traffic along side it can be very busy and loud. There are a few larger hills.

Virginia Blue Ridge Railway Trail

Great family trail

August, 2017 by saltlifeforus

We were very happy with this ride! Great trail for families with young children. Our 12-year old had fun and we were able to easily pull our daughter along in a bicycle trailer since the path is a nice smooth surface the entire way. Very scenic, saw lots of wildlife, and was able to stop and let the kids play in the river at the end!

Chessie Nature Trail

Gates and Cow "pies"!

August, 2017 by cawiegle

We rode the trail today starting in Buena Vista. There was one locked gate that required us to hand our bikes over the cattle fence and several farm gates that were passable. At one location, there were about a dozen cows and a donkey that were "on" the trail, making passage difficult. Along this stretch of the trail, cattle are grazed and there were multiple places with fresh cow dung.

Suffolk Seaboard Coastline Trail

Awesome trails

August, 2017 by secondamen

The trails are a great addition to the area, however they need to make sure they don't add too much parking to it so it doesn't get overloaded like everything else in Hampton Roads. You don't want to have to duck and weave a million people if you're walking or riding.

Chessie Nature Trail

Average Trail

July, 2017 by sportstersteve

I started in Lexington, first of all parking is very limited at this end and I didn't see any signs for parking. The first few miles are very nice with scenic views of the Maury River. Then I came upon a gate which you had to go through because the trail extends on private property. There was a cow lying next to the gate on the other side which made it impossible to open. On top of that there were other cows or steers lying on the trail and it was full of manure so I headed back. Doubt if I would do this trail again.

Great ride, super experience in area

July, 2017 by romerv

We chose this ride after reading about it on the Traillink website and decided to make it into a Galax mini-vacation. We stayed in a cabin at Fiddler's Roost, a wonderful retreat about 15 minutes from the Galax trailhead. Had BBQ at the Smokehouse on Main St., picked up sandwiches for our ride from Macado's, and played Trivia at Creek Bottom Brewery. Met lots of friendly people on the trail and in town. Oh, and the ride was great.

Suffolk Seaboard Coastline Trail

Now a Little Longer

This is a great flat and wide paved beginner trail. It has now been extended east and is 3.5 miles long. Some parking, port-a-john, and bike repair station with tools at each trail head.

Trillium Trail (Sandy Bottom Nature Park)

City Oasis

July, 2017 by jflan4

This trail circles Sandy Bottom Nature Park, and acts as an oasis in the middle of the busy city of Hampton. Hard packed stone is easy to ride on, and their are numerous side trails to explore and on which to double-back. One drawback is the proximity of Interstate 64 on the east side of the park, which the trail follows for some distance and could be a distraction for someone wishing for a more secluded trail.

New River Trail State Park

Beautiful shaded ride

July, 2017 by tom.joy

57.7 miles of beauty, much of it shaded. Stayed at the cabins in Galax - great choice!
On the evening of our arrival, we did the Fries spur. Then divided the rest of the trail over 2 days. Best and cheapest shuttle service was found at the state park in the middle.

Potomac Yard Trail

A community asset

Love this trail! It offers a pleasant and easy walk from the Braddock Metro station into a quiet residential neighborhood. We take it up to E. Monroe Avenue, where there's a YMCA, community park, grocery store, and other shops. On this stretch, my young daughter enjoys the playground at E. Glendale Avenue and the exercise stations along the route.

Jackson River Scenic Trail

New and Improved for 2017!!!

July, 2017 by skysail729_tl

They have just completed another 10 miles of trail this spring. The best I can tell, it's now a bit over 17 miles long. It a quite wide and seems to be a very well-maintained trail. There is no more than a 1% grade on any part of the trail so it's suitable for families. Much of it follows the Jackson Rive and it's it has cool breezes of air coming off the water on a hot days. It appears they are still currently expanding the trail into the city of Covington. They have added bathrooms and a nice picnic shelter near the Intervale Trail Head in the city. However the upper end of the trail beyond the Smith Bridge Trail head has recently been completed and lacks facilities. Although there are plans to add them in the future. Most of the trail is well shaded by the trees in the summer and appears to drain nicely following rain. It's worth the trip to for the scenery alone!

High Bridge Trail

Water

Liked the trail but I only found one water fountain on it, which was at Farmville. Also it would be nice if they had a connecting trail from twin lakes state park to the trail.
