My wife and I rode this trail on March 9-10-11. It was Straight as an arrow and Flat as a pancake! My wife and I always explore new rail-trails as we travel... Normally we do 6 miles out and back. But this time, my wife said she was willing to go to the end of the trail! We parked @ the main parking lot right off of Hwy 17. Each day we did a round-trip of a bit over 17miles! Two beautiful bathrooms about 3.5miles apart. Two awesome JD 6600 Combines and some other old farm vehicles hidden in the woods! This is a beautiful and serene riding location at any time of the day! We stayed @ the HIExpress-Chesapeake; about 8 miles away. The only bear we saw was Ches A. Peake, the wooden mascot @ the trail entrance!
Not a clear connection from Boardwalk Trail but with Trail Link maps, you’ll find it. Very cool to go over the big bridge. Then follows the busy highway thru residential and business areas including the Aquarium! Partially shaded. Sometimes bumpy from roots or uneven sidewalks.
A wonderful 50 mile, paved, off road bike trail between Jamestown (first capital) and Richmond (current capital), Virginia! We did a video of our ride this fall that is on our YouTube channel, Bent on Bike Trails.
The trails are very well maintained. Despite all the previous rain, I had an awesome 23 mile ride and throughly enjoyed the day. The park Staff are very knowledgeable and friendly.
Nice trail love it. did 8 miles and want to come back again
This is not an easy ride on a bike. Parked at Harbor Park the route runs along the Waterside waterfront which is nice but you have to dodge a lot of walkers, sight seeing people. Then it twists and turns and signage could be better. Once you get out of the Waterside area it’s sidewalks some rather narrow. Again dodging lots of walkers. I disliked this so much that about 3.5 miles in I turned around and left. It’s not a dedicated bike path, the city just put up some signs along sidewalks. This was no fun.
I come here almost every weekend. It gets crowded during summer so make sure u start early to get a parking space.
Very nice atmosphere with plenty of rest areas. Be sure to be the sun down to avoid wildlife
We bike this last week and found that even though it is next to the main highway the trees make it feel woodsy. We loved the bike fixing stations on each end of the trail. The 10 miles round trip was well worth
Great ride. Rode East and had a great time. I recommend grabbing a small trail map early so you know where bathrooms and tool kits are located.
My buddy and I did the round trip this past Sunday, Aug 30. Beautiful day for a long ride.
