South River Greenway Trail

paved trail perfect for short activities

July, 2020 by vabss

We have been on this trail too many times to count. Perfect for walking, jogging, scooting for kids, or a short bike ride. If you are biking, you can create a loop with the wide, lightly trafficked downtown roads of Waynesboro (we come back to the trail on Short street to avoid the main downtown road which is more narrow). There are benches, dog bag stations, and a newly installed bike repair station on this trail. I can’t wait until they finish the remaining phases and it is longer. Probably not worth a long drive (yet) but if you are in the area it is lovely. Stay in town and visit a brewery or local eatery downtown.

Virginia Blue Ridge Railway Trail

loved it.

Such a great ride. The creeks and river provide some amazing scenery not to mention a refreshing reprieve to tired feet. Great couple of hours.

Roanoke River Greenway

A terrific, safe trail right through a city

June, 2020 by ockham3

I ride the Roanoke River Greenway several times a week. I park at either the Norwich trailhead At Bridge Street or the 13th Street entrance. To add the Tinker Creek Greenway, I park at one of two side by side lots on Wise Avenue or at Fallon Park. This section has a very steep hill which connects to the Roanoke River Greenway at the Water Pollution Plant. Great fun. A nice side trip is to cross over to the Garden City Greenway, a two mile climb up and back 2 miles to the RRG. An 18-20 mile excursion in total. Did it this morning. Great!
The ride through the several city parks is quite beautiful and on the weekends there are lots of riders, joggers and walkers sharing the trail with families using the many picnic tables along the route.
I’m always safe, always within shouting distance of help if I need it at 75 years.

great ride.

The trail was nice and the scenery - amazing. Nice roadside stops on both ends for a quick snack as well. Didn’t see any bathrooms though - FYI.

High Bridge Trail

Impressive Bridge- Boring Ride

June, 2020 by sksingleton1984

My husband I, both fairly new to biking, parked at Elam and rode into Farmville, then on another 4.5 miles to High Bridge. The gravel trail was flat, slight inclines here and there. You can hear but not see the traffic on 460 for parts of it. Rode in and out of shady patches and could really feel a temperature change when we did. Stopped at 2 of the restrooms along the trail. Very clean and with plenty of hand sanitizer but no running water. The view was pretty much the same until we got to Farmville. Just long, straight, tree lined . Not my favorite rail trail , but the bridge itself was pretty spectacular. Got bored on the way back more so than going towards the bridge. we got to FarmVille/

Great escape from Cville!

May, 2020 by msmoodyness

Busy trail (especially on a Sunday) but beautiful and worthwhile way to spend a day! I imagine hiking on the unpaved trails is even better...we biked the entire length and back, so fun!

Virginia Blue Ridge Railway Trail

Beautiful

This was a great ride! Very flat and a nice easy trail to ride. We took our kids in a trailer and they did great!! We let them out to hop in the river too at once spot. Really enjoyed and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a fun easy, family ride!
