Cleanup?

September, 2019 by juobie26

My wife and I moved to the Hearthstone community two years ago and love to walk the rail trail. Unfortunately, the trail has been blocked by multiple tree debris and is beyond passable. It has been a month since anything has been done. Can I get an update.

Barnegat Branch Trail

Nice in Forked River "but"

August, 2019 by mary.m.teel

I have an electric trike I use to shop & ride due to mobility issues & was hoping to use the trail to avoid riding on Rt 9 to get from Sunrise to Walmart. What I found was the trail not only ended Musket Rd, which I expected, but it had a guard rail with a hard to navigate narrow mount to exit the trail. That necessitated me to get off & try to push my trike up around the mound & guard rail. The rest of the trail from Lacey Rd to the guard rail was nice.

PLEASE REPAIR!

August, 2019 by rstrong_tl

WE FIRST CAME TO LIVE IN PEMBERTON THREE YEARS AGO, AND WE WERE DELIGHTED TO FIND THE R-T TRAIL. WE WALKED IT ALMOST EVERY WEEK--WITH MY WIFE, OUR GRANDCHILDREN, ETC.
BUT FOR THE LAST TWO OR THREE MONTHS, IT HAS BECOME IMPASSABLE WITH SEVERAL TREES BLOCKING THE PATH, INCLUDING ON THE "Y" THAT RETURNS TO HANOVER STREET. WE HOPED IT WOULD BE CLEARED DURING THE SUMMER, BUT I GUESS THAT'S NOT GOING TO BE DONE!
PLEASE CLEAR THE FALLEN TREES!!! THANK YOU.

BEWARE OF WILD BOARS!

August, 2019 by sblee325

Pros: Great for bikers who just want to practice riding their bike and not having pedestrians in their way!

Cons: The scenery is okay - I biked in August in 90 degrees weather and there were dragonflies and butterflies in the air. I ALSO ran into a wild boar. I was biking and I saw a brown fluffy animal around 15 feet ahead of me, lumbering around. At first, I thought it was a baby bear but when I biked a bit closer, I saw it's white tusks from a distance. I had to turn my bike around and bike back to the starting point. I am not sure how safe it is to bike around wild animals, but there's my warning to you! Not taking any chances!

Overall experience: It could be better, but it wasn't really worth the drive up. I would bike there if I lived closer. Overall, it is a nice path to practice on - I would try again in the Fall.

Elephant Swamp Trail

Beautiful scenery

July, 2019 by sblee325

Pros: Beautiful scenery! There are huge farms, pretty sunflowers, and interesting houses. I think I passed by an alpaca and saw a couple of horses and cows as well. There were a lot of dragonflies and butterflies in the air. I biked in 90 degrees weather but the land was vast and it made the weather feel more cool/clear.

Cons: Be careful when you are riding your bike on the road because the speed limit goes up to 50 mph for the cars. I always slow down when I hear a car coming up behind me, but it's always better to be safe than sorry!

Overall experience: Out of the three bike routes I took so far, this area had the most beautiful scenery. As a beginner, I didn't have any trouble navigating the area. I do have to say to not wander off too much because some of the driveways of the homes in the field look like off-bike routes. Don't get confused and stay on the road!

Gloucester Township Health and Fitness Trail (aka Blackwood Railroad Trail)

Good bike route - can be better

July, 2019 by sblee325

Pros: Lots of shade to make a 90-degree day feel cooler. Clear road signs to stop for oncoming traffic. Nice urban-like scenery, there are some cool houses you pass by, and you also get to ride over one bridge and under another!

Cons: There were a lot of broken branches and even a fallen tree. Not sure how safe this bike trail is at night, but there were some empty patrol cars that were spotted near the bike route that alleviated some anxiety.

Overall experience: Great! This is my 2nd bike trail that I rode since getting my first road bike. It has a lot of potential. It looks like it is still under construction, so if the bike trail became even more extended, was tided up, and also had a bit more supervision, I think it would be an excellent first bike run experience!

Kinkora Rail Trail

Great for a family ride

May, 2019 by rebekahbaier

We took our 5 and 10 year old and it was perfect for them. Wide, smooth paved path and very flat. Found some picnic benches on the trail overlooking a farm. Kids enjoyed watching the farm equipment.

Pleasantville to Somers Point Bike Path

Spring 2019

May, 2019 by chriscahill767

My wife and I took advantage of the recent rare sunny days a tried this trail out today. We started from the Somers Point end, parking by the police station on New York and 1st. We did about 5.5 miles out and turned around due to time constraints. The trail is very well maintained and goes through various residential neighborhoods. There was mixed use with walkers, runners, dog walkers and bikes. The only reason I didn’t rate it a 5 star is because of the frequent traffic crossings. They are well marked and autos were generally cautious at the crossings. If you’re looking for higher, more consistent speeds, this might not be the best trail for you. If your down the shore and want to do a family ride off the streets, this is a great choice. Somers Point also has many nice, low key restaurants, bars and micro breweries, that make it a nice destination for recovery after the ride.

Barnegat Branch Trail

Love the Barnegat Branch Trail!! However, Are the mile markers on the Barnegat Branch Trails Accurate?

January, 2019 by phillips3rds

The Barnegat Branch Trails are fantastic jogging and running trails.
My family has been enjoying them for years.
I recently received a fit bit with a GPS as a gift for running.
However, the GPS and the mile markers on the trail are not jiving.
The GPS seems to be indicating the trail is longer than the mile markers are stating. Not sure if the GPS is inaccurate or the mile markers are somehow not exact? Anyone else with a similar experience? Otherwise, the trails are just perfect for walking, jogging or running.

Atlantic County Bikeway

Atlantic County Bike Way ~ West, Anyone?

October, 2018 by bonsaimtb

Everyone who's posted a review in on the Money about what to expect on the Atlantic County Bike Way. It's a Straight Shot from the EHT Shore Mall, West to Mays Landings ACIT Atlantic County Institute of Technology. The Path itself is in Great condition that receives little use making it idea for those who require speed, fitness and Strava~Ass times ;). The Scenery isn't picturesque, unless you enjoy Pine Tree and Huckelberry Bush scenery. It feels more like a straight paved trail through the woods with traffic you can't see on either side of you. Nonetheless, if your looking for seclusion from horrific Traffic in the area and open space to ride or run, this is your Oasis. When the AC Bike Way is finally completed, it will run from EHT, NJ Shore Mall, all the way to the Buena Campground in Buena, NJ. Making the Total Distance from end to end 23.6 miles long. Not bad for all day bike excursion with several interesting stops along the way ;)

Above is my take on the Atlantic County Bike Way ~ East, I'm more concerned with the County, State and Outside Enthusists funding and building the Atlantic County Bike Way ~ West. For those who don't know, the AC Bike Way is Divide into 2 separate Bike Way's and the Middle Point is Mays Landing, NJ. The Bike Way West WILL be a very secluded Ride, but has a lot of potential in becoming a must do Day Trip/Ride. The reason I say this is because there is so much to stop and see on the AC Bike Way. Here is a short list of places you won't want to miss on your Ride ~ Tuckahoe Micro Brew, Lazy Eye Vodka Distillery, Funny Farm Animal Rescue AND the Baltic Winery. All these business are free to visit (Adult Beverage Establishment offer free Adult Beverage tasting to those of legal age and will offer discounts to Bike Way users when the Bike Way is up and running) All these business are located a 100 yards or less from the AC Bike Way ~ West.

If you have a interest in getting the AC Bike Way ~ West completed, please sign up for my Atlantic County Bike Way ~ West, Facebook Page. Thanks ;)

Buena Borough Bike Path

Great for beginners or leasure ride

August, 2018 by toothfairy65mrm

I enjoyed this bike trail. Great for the non-pro riders who just wanted a nice bike ride. The trail begins at the park. Paved trail with no difficult hills.
Mostly shaded. Ride continues past a meadow which I am sure will be beautiful in the fall. It is a short trail, approx 2 mi but was good enough for me! It may be perfect for the families who ride with younger kids.

Barnegat Branch Trail

Too many stop signs

April, 2018 by graphitepaddle

Riding a recumbent trike, starting in Lochiel Park. Rode north to the end (Lacey Rd). Rode to the southern end (Burr St), before returning to Lochiel Park.

Southern section has few crossings, lots of shade, and is further from rt 9. Expect to return, but only because of this section.

Middle section is practically on top of rt. 9. And the constant road & driveway crossing are a big deterrent for returning for more rides.

An outhouse in Lockiel Park, plus another one north one north Country Ln.
