Boulevard Trolley Line Path

Too busy for bikes by 10 a.m. on a weekend

September, 2024 by lizleih

This path looks nice, but when we tried to take our family of four for a bike ride, we saw that it was too packed with dog walkers and runners for comfort. We arrived later than planned, about 10 a.m., so maybe if you go earlier on a weekend it would be okay. Also the address for the parking took us to a beach that said for "Mountain Lakes residents only" so then we went to the church parking lot (St. Catherine's I believe,) but by then we decided it that it was just too busy for 4 cyclists.

Single Track Mountain Bike Kinda Trail

August, 2024 by scott123180

Tried this trail with 35mm's but it's really a mountain biking trail. Single track and a bit overgrown in places. I'm sure other parts of it are nice. I wish it was a bit more maintained and wider.

Bethpage Bikeway

Great ride

Biked the entire run, from Woodbury to Massapequa. Completely paved path the entire way. Only half-dozen “small bumps” along the entire way due to tree roots, but seriously, nothing to complain about.

A paved gem

This isn’t the most scenic trail in the world, but it’s in spectacular condition, paved from end to end, busy on weekends but never overcrowded. There are a few nice stops along the trail. Beware: there is a slightly confusing part in Goshen where the trail has a short gap - the signage is not great so you might fumble around to find the next section, but it’s totally worth the trouble.

Peters Brook Greenway

I’d skip this one

Confusing “trail” - poorly maintained, poorly marked. Felt a bit sketchy so to be clear I did not do the whole trail.

Good on a sunny day

Trail will take you from Horseshoe Lake Park down to Chester. Flat, cinders and dirt. Couple of trees down on the route but easy to scale over. Good shade. With a good pace you can make it down and back in about an hour. Great option for local riders or for a stroll in the woods.

Great trail did from Harriman to Middletown plenty of opportunities to get food & water . I recommend Mason’s Place in New Hampton right on the trail breakfast lunch , dinner & bar . Very cool 1866 place , lots of history , good food . The owner Brett was very accommodating and offered to stay late for us .

Rode from Harriman ti right before downtown Chester. The trail is closed for maintenance at about the 7 mile marker.

Henry Hudson Trail

Roots, roots, roots!

August, 2024 by robertino

On Monday, 05 August 2024, I rode my road bike from Keyport to Leonardo along what I believed would be one of New Jersey's premier paved paths. It's obvious it was once a wonderful path, but that was years ago. The path is disappointingly neglected and is no fun at all to ride on: the asphalt pavement is epidemically root-riven. Some places need to be resurfaced and the wide crevices filled in. I would go so far as to say that the path needs to be rebuilt! It's a shame, too, because the path traverses lovely woods that offer shade from a blazing summer sun.
That same day I had ridden the bay-side section of the Henry Hudson Trail. That part runs right beside the bay and is constructed of finely crushed stone. It's beautiful and is a joy to ride on, even on a road bike!
It's easy to get from the bay-side of the HHT to the bike path that threads up through Sandy Hook to Fort Hancock -- and that route is nothing short of magnificent!
But, from Keyport to Leonardo -- just skip it.

Loantaka Brook Reservation Trail

Wife and I had a nice ride through the trail. Will definitely be back. Nice area and plenty of benches along the way to sit and relax.

West Morris Greenway

good trail

Started at Horseshoe Park, a County Park, to warm up for about 2 miles around. Pretty park, with a beach, however, not open to non-residents of the town. Overall, the riding surface varied too often. Biked the 1st mile or so south, on a wide cinder path, which was excellent, however, as you went further south, it changed to dirt, which was fine when it was dry mostly the case on a hot July weekend. Then it narrowed, then went through what felt like wagon, wheel, ruts, where you can only bike in narrow channels and hen widened at a few points. once or twice it was mud for a short distance. On a hot July day, it provided great tree cover, but was slightly buggy. You could tell that if it rained, it would be very buggy. was a very pleasant ride but not many varied things to see so it became a bit monotonous.
