A History Lesson Along a Scenic Trail

September, 2017 by hal.snik

During the summer of 2017, I ran and/or rode my mountain bike along the entire trail (including Bordentown) twice. While it's so surprise that Frenchtown to Washington Crossing is a favorite among many reviewers, don't neglect the beauty of the trail from New Brunswick to Trenton. The trail is in very good shape overall, with some spots being in better shape than

Of course I say this as a skater I'm sure as a cyclist &/or runner the trail is smooth regardless. Great scenery, refreshing, enjoyed e' minute of it! Few streets to cross... just be extra careful while crossing...

Henry Hudson Trail

Southern section: Very nice trail (not as good as others )

September, 2017 by andrew012651

Rode today (9/5/17) from Stillwell St in Matawan to Freehold- and back. 26 miles. The trail is paved with several root bumps (not marked by yellow spray paint like a lot of NYS trails) so be prepared for a jolt if you're looking at the scenery and not at the trail. Scenery too great at start. Electrical towers parallel the trail for awhile its gets much nicer in Morganville in Marlboro. After 5 miles the trail ends. Took rt 79 left onto Newman Springs Rd. That's about 1.5 or 1.75 miles until I picked up trail in Big Brook Park. No trail markers that I saw at Kozloski rd to pick up trail but you can- just follow paved path. Trail ends after another 5.5 miles or so (from Big Brook Park) at East Main in Freehold. A quarter mile or so down East Main I had a slice of pizza at Stefano's. Rode another half mile to 68 South St (where Springsteen lived) and rode back. Faster on return trip. Several grade crossing and some on really busy streets. All in all, very nice. Not as good as several trails in Westchester and Rockland NY. Or Sandy Hook. Less root bumps than Northern section of the HH trail.

Union Transportation Trail

An easy if uneventful ride

August, 2017 by robert.richter89

The Union Transportation Trail is very well marked and maintained. There are a few Road crossings with only one being very busy even on a nice Sunday. The trail is mostly flat with a few very small hills a very doable end to end ride of about 17 miles.

I found the scenery mostly bland. Mostly farms and the backs of businesses. This is the only complaint I have about this trail.

Sandy Hook Multi-Use Pathway

Superb!

Dateline August 14, 2017. Sunny, in the 80's.
A flat, well-paved, off-road path that goes by uncrowded beaches and historic buildings used during wartime. There is a tower (slightly off-path) for better views and if you look north from almost anywhere you can see the Manhattan skyline. What a perfect ride I had followed by a dip in the ocean. Perfect!

Monroe Township Bikeway

My Come To Trail for Shade, Coolness, And Beauty, Especially, Summertime

August, 2017 by rcpat

I have been coming to this trail for about four years. I really like it for its beauty, shade, and well maintained. I usually bike 20 to 25 miles 3 times a week. I bike half of my workout in Washington Township mainly because they have some hills. I need hills in my workout because when i go over to Pennsylvania they have hills. By the time i get done with that segment i can`t wait to get to the trail. The trail rejuvenates me because the temperature is much cooler and the lush forest, especially, between Fries Mill Rd. and Delsea DR. (rte 47).
Finally, when I am all done, I have a spot I go to relax. If I am lucky I watch the skydivers jumping from the plane. This really makes my day.

Bayshore Trail (Henry Hudson Trail)

rjlukach

August, 2017 by rjlukach

Yesterday, August 16 we decided to walk this trail. We found the trail completely closed for construction. The Popamora end by a sign only and the marina end by a full chain link fence gate. Needless to say, we were very disappointed. As an alternate, we drove the short distance to the HHT Activity Center to walk the northern end of the Henry Hudson Trail. We went as far as the bridge over Rt. 36 that leads to the Earle Pier. When we reached this point, my wife said I have had enough. Enough traffic noise from Rt. 36, enough bicyclists without the courtesy to announce their passing - "on your left", a few simple words to avoid injury for all, enough hard paved surface. We turned back and went to the marina to sit quietly by the water. My sincere hope is the area under construction is only being repaired and not paved over as is this section of the HHT. If it is paved, we will go back to the woods to find more natural trails for hiking.

Union Transportation Trail

Pleasant trail with plenty of wildlife

August, 2017 by brucewrite

I ride this from the parking lot on Herbert Road down to the southern end and back several times a week. The trail is in excellent condition and a real pleasure to ride. Hikers, walkers, and bikes share the fine gravel route. It features wooden bridges over the plentiful streams, including an impressive restored tressle near the southern end. Lots of birds and wildlife because the trail passes through woods and fields. Early morning riders can sneak for coffee through Hornerstown to the Dunkin Donuts on 537 and there is a great ice cream store on Rt 539 there as well.

Easygoing Shore Riding

August, 2017 by pflnpf

What is more fun than cycling in the forest, beach, and ruins of a foregone past? I was virtually alone on an early August weekday that was overcast. I only wish I had my own bike instead of the cruisers they rent here, but it was a new experience and serviceable for this short ride.

Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park Trail

Nice Ride, but difficult at spots

August, 2017 by georgepc

Rode the southern section from Bulls Island state park south towards Washington Crossing. About 14 miles one direction. The path is tricky at times and mostly narrow the entire length. When it is crowded as it was when we rode, you have to be careful and take it slow. If it's a fast ride you want then this is not the path to take. However it is a pleasant and scenic Ride along the Delaware. The path is all packed hard dirt and crushed gravel. I had no problems with my narrow rode bike tires.

Union Transportation Trail

Great trail!

August, 2017 by dibergie

We rode the entire 9-mile trail and back from Millstream Road parking lot to just beyond Herbert Road parking lot. The trail was in great condition, very well marked, and entirely off the road except for the few road crossings we had to do. Not many people using the trail considering it was a beautiful summer Sunday.
