Loantaka Brook Reservation Trail

Okay for walking and light biking

Reviewing for biking. No as long as it says…and you need to cross the streets a few times. Also lacking good signage.

It’s perfect for people who love nature—lots of forest and good trails. I really liked it.

Harlem Valley Rail Trail

Beautiful

August, 2026 by trylondm

Rode entire trail roundtrip on a sunny August day. It's a great trail with a great paved surface. Scenic, too. The southern trailhead (Wassaic) has a direct train connection to New York City, so it's just a matter of time before it's discovered by folks from the city for a day's ride.

Town of Millerton in center of trail had the best facilities for a mid-ride break. Copake Iron Works Museum at Taconic State Park and close to the trail also well worth a visit.

D & H Canal Park

Easy

Cute park area, playground for kids, pavilion, picnic tables, grills. Boat launch and museum, although the museum had a sign that it is no longer open. I parked at the visitor center and biked the Heritage Trail. Easy, gravel, a couple of ponds along the way. Ends at 209.

Sussex Branch Trail

great for hike. not great for bike.

Have a comfort bike with wider tires 24 speeds. There are in most parts of the trail 2 tracks. Mostly unkept so poor for biking. Trail is grass and like I said 2 bike tire tracks. However would be great for hiking.

North County Trailway

Now renamed to the Andrew O'Rourke Westchester County Trailway

July, 2026 by joann.brereton

Wonderful trail. Part of the larger Empire State Trailway. This part from Eastview to Baldwin Place is the section I ride the most. Mostly shaded once you're north of Millwood with plenty of spots where you can stop for a bite or veer off for road riding near the reservoirs.

Highlands Rail Trail

Nice little path

July, 2026 by alkreitner

My wife and I walked the trail after dinner tonight. It’s a fine 12 foot wide trail, very well maintained and great for moms running with strollers or teaching kids to ride a 2 wheeler. Too short for a serious adult bike ride and it’s not terribly scenic but it’s nonetheless a nice addition for the community. It does lack mileage markers which would be helpful.
