Ashuwillticook Trail Serenity

August, 2017 by paisleybird

A well maintained, serene, lakeside, forested and gentle day on asphalt . This scenic ride through small towns was full of reminders of past manufacturing and local efforts to attract more riders of all ages. The Adams town visitor center was brand new.
Lots of benches and fewer picnic tables allowed for stops and lunch breaks.
A polite mix of strolling, riding families, couples, friends and single participants added to a soothing day of healthy exercise!

Nice Trail

August, 2017 by denisonhwc

This is a very nice paved asphalt trail. There is a little more ascent going North (johnstown to Gloversville). The only drawback is the amount of street crossings. Still, well worth doing!

Must Do Ride!!!

July, 2017 by paulsen12

My husband and I did this Trail on July 28th...was beautiful! We did it end to end, started at the Lanesborough parking lot then rode to Adams and back. It was perfect - with a lake to ride by, plenty of pull off benches, pond landscapes. My advice is to start in Adams and ride to/towards Lanesborough, there's a slight incline when you're entering Adams so if you want an easier finish ride towards Lanesborough. Trail is clean & well kept also.

Scenic Easy Ride

July, 2017 by kulickk

Well maintained with beautiful scenery along almost the entire length. Lots of places to sit and rest or view the surroundings. A lot of this trail is dead level so its and easy ride. I parked at one of the two lots at the south end of the trail. Good starting point as there are toilet facilities there.

Spring Run Trail

Nice and Easy

July, 2017 by dscelsi

This is a lovely short trail - it's one mile in one direction. It's flat, paved and runs through wooded areas and over wetlands and streams. There are lots of wildflowers along the walk, you can hear frogs croaking, birds chirping, and rabbits running here and there. It is a very pleasant easy walk.

Harlem Valley Rail Trail

Hillsdale section now paved and open!

June, 2017 by billblum

I rode the newest 1.5 mile section from Anthony Street in Hillsdale to the Black Grocery Road trail head across the town line in Copake. It's a pleasant wooded section and a deer even crossed my path notwithstanding how close the trail runs to a residential section of Hillsdale. I then connected to the Orphan Farms Road to Undermountain Road section via a 3.3 mile detour, mostly on lightly traveled local roads with some gentle hills, to the Orphan Farms trailhead. Apparently this detour will be needed for some time since the plans for crossing both the Roe Jan Creek (near the Black Grocery trailhead) and NY Route 22, on the immediate opposite shore of the creek, have not yet been determined.

Champlain Canalway Trail: Saratoga

Mostly Grass but a nice walk into history

June, 2017 by flmark

This path is an easy walk, but would be annoying by bike. I am writing this review after realizing nobody else had commented and I managed to find myself on this path by chance. The Saratoga Battlefield Park has a few paths where a lawn mower is the only thing that keeps the path active. I followed one of these paths down to the bottom of ‘The Great Redoubt’. Immediately across from the site of General Fraser’s death, a path leads to a small bridge, which crosses the remnants of the canal. I walked to the southern end, which is at the sign for the entrance to the battlefield, maybe a half mile. It was an enjoyable little side trip, as part of the rest of my battlefield walks.

I have biked on several hundred miles of trails here at traillink. This ranks near the bottom for biking, as the amount of crushed stone is far exceeded by the grass content. However, if you want to combine a bit of US history with a pleasant walk along this old canal, I would recommend a battlefield hike that incorporates this trail which can be reached from the last stop on the car tour of the park. So, one star for biking, four stars for walking...leads me to give it two stars overall. I don't mountain bike, but I would imagine it would probably most of those folks happy.

Zim Smith Trail

Watch for Construction

June, 2017 by amer_tl

I was there yesterday and entered the trail in Round Lake near Leah's Bake Shop. We rode north for a little bit but found the trail was closed for construction. Not being familiar with the roads in the area, I am not sure how much of it was closed but it was after the highway overpass.

It is a beautiful ride with lots of nice places to stop for refreshments. The Village of Round Lake is lovely.

Erie Canalway Trail

Fairport to W Henrietta Rd Rochester

June, 2017 by ajw

We parked at Lock 32, and rode west to Henrietta Rd (we were going to Genesee Valley Park, but trail closed at Henrietta Rd for bridge construction). Then turned around and went east to Fairport. 26miles roundtrip. Trail is paved, flat, and in good condition for most of the way. Since it is along a canal, it is open with little shade. Tough on a windy day. There was a portapotty at Lock 32, but no other restrooms or water that we saw.
