Pequonnock River Trail

Trail is now finished

January, 2018 by plesiw

The new portion heading under the Merritt Parkway entrances (via tunnels) are installed and old train bridge over Rt 15 is now open and it's complete.
It is a continuous trail from Bridgeport (Beardsley Park) to Newtown.

Great work in completing this section.
Now we need to get Newtown on board to extend it.

Mosholu-Pelham Greenway

One Side of the Bronx to Another

November, 2017 by slipsoup

This is a great trail to get from one side of the Bronx to another. The ride starts from Van Cortlandt Park in Riverdale to Pelham Bay Park. Recent improvements to this trail have made it even better. Enjoy the almost 10-mile ride through the Bronx, mostly off-road, with some parkway crossings.
Visit City Island, Orchard Beach, and Pelham Bay Park, all within a short distance. The Bartow-Pell Mansion is across from the trail on Shore Road. The mansion grounds are free and make for a nice place to stop for photos or just a break.

Great Valley Rail Trail

13.5 Mile Loop Using Great Valley Rail Trail

November, 2017 by georgecrosley

Began my mountain bike excursion at dawn from Warbasse Junction on a mild November Saturday. Headed out on the Paulinskill Valley Trail through the Sussex Branch Trail intersection toward Mudcut Road. Two miles in there was a good-sized bear in the middle of the trail, forty yards ahead. Stopped, calmly backed up and turned around once the bear did. It added about four miles to the loop. The Great Valley stretch is not as well traveled as the trails it connects. Wide trail most of the way. Fine for hybrid bikes. Memorable ride. Loop was well marked in each direction.

Larkin State Park Trail

Detour needs signage

October, 2017 by Mary Jean

The description of the trail talks about the detour using Long Meadow Rd. and Towantic Hill Road. There were no signs on the trail itself to tell you this detour was in place, and no signs on the detour roads. I could not find re-entry off of Towantic Hill Rd. I continued on the road until Riggs St. where I rejoined the trail turning right, west, at that point.
Didn't do much of the west end west of Rt. 67, it really was quite rocky. There were a few soft spots that were a pain, but mostly it was a quiet shady ride.

Heritage Trail (aka Orange Heritage Trail)

our favorite trail

All asphalt no real hills, places to eat behind the golf driving range and at the end of the Trail in Goshen. Also the first historic trotters horse track.

Great Valley Rail Trail

Great Valley is Quiet Oasis

September, 2017 by hal.snik

Wide lightly trafficked rail trail that is great for a walk, easy hike, trail run or easy mountain bike ride. While the trail is wide, in some parts it is merely a footpath in the grass. Part of a loop that spans over 13 miles. Bug spray is recommended.

Middlebury Greenway

nice local trail; not worth driving to

September, 2017 by eileen.gunn

I think this trail is fine for local people who want to get a little exercise and bike through town. But it's not a trail you drive to for a scenic ride and it's not good with kids.
We parked I guess midway, in area the Greenwyay's facebook page directs you to. In a few blocks it turns into a sidewalk with a lot of strip mall driveways. the other way, the trail petered out onto a residential street after a few blocks. By myself I might have followed it to see if it became a trail again. But I didn't want to bike on the busy sidewalk or on the street with my kid. Also, the hills are not long but they are steep and challenging for a kid who is still on a bike with 20" tires and no gears. So we gave up. Wish trail link would have a category up top that defines trails as scenic "destination" rides or "getting around" local rides. It would have saved us a lot of time.
