Union Transportation Trail

July 20, 2024

July, 2024 by fc9vjs5dw4

Entered on Millstream. The first 4 miles were very pleasant, wide gravel which was firmly packed. Then it got a rather loose like pine barren sand. I have a hybrid so I was able to maneuver okay but my ride became a bit more stressful. Then after going through the tunnel under 195, the trail became less maintained and more narrow. It was a fun ride, especially since it was pretty straight. Several small bridges, farms and wooded. Very friendly people! It was an enjoyable trail but I doubt I will repeat.

Barnegat Branch Trail

Bypass this section

I recommend taking Barnegat lake drive between Musket and South to avoid the section of the trail that is barely passable. The rest of the trail is really nice.

Woodbine Railroad Trail

Good trail to bike! Pretty flat paved trail. Not much foot or bike traffic. We biked on Memorial Day Weekend and we passed only three bikers.

Dennis Township Bike Path

24 miles from start to Cape May Point Lighthouse State Park

October, 2023 by tjfogelberg

I biked 2 miles South (Corson Tavern Road) from the Thousand Trails Lake and Shore campground (Oceanview) to the northern most trailhead and continued on to the Cape May Point Lighthouse State Park. What a great 24 mile ride! Very little interaction with cars. 100% paved (recent). This trail interacts with Middle Township and Cold Spring trail. Worth looking for...it was a bit tricky to find the trail heads. There was limited parking at a few of the trailheads. No restrooms on trail but I did see a few convenience stores along the way and also a city park (Railroad Avenue Park) closer to Cape May that had a bike station, drinking fountain and portable toilet.

Nice narrow bike path

September, 2023 by joenad55

This was just completed in the last couple of years. A bit narrower than what I like to jog on, but this part goes all the way to the county line. The trees are set far back, which means this is in the sun most of the day. Would recommend going out early or late in the day. Have to cross a couple of roads with light traffic, and then Rt 83. Connects to the trail in Middle Township at the county line.

Monroe Township Bike Path

Easy, shady ride for a hot day!

September, 2023 by xerna17

We ride this trail a few times a year. Its very straight, smooth and mostly flat. Just a few very slight inclines. From Rt. 47 you ride a good distance before there are any road crossings. After that there are a few but only one or two that have a lot of traffic. Most of the trail goes through mature woodlands that give a lot of shade. My only complaint is that there don't seem to be any public bathrooms on the trail or at the trailheads. Otherwise, this is an easy, pretty trail.

Barnegat Branch Trail

We started at the south end in Barnegat. We bikes the first 7 miles. There is a lot of opportunities between mile maker 2.5 and 3.5 to eat, drink, restroom.

Nice Crushed Stone Ride

August, 2023 by z4g9gshqpr

Parked at Working Dog Winery about a mile and a half from the north end trail head. Used my road bike which worked fairly well for the 20 miles round trip. Just be careful on turns if you are using a narrow tire. The crushed stone can make it a bit slippery. Trail is about 50/50 sun and shade with only one major road crossing which is quite nice. A great option for central jersey riders.

July Afternoon Ride

July, 2023 by kimcowan

We started at the parking lot at Sharon Station Rd and Herbert Rd. It's a large parking lot near the "8 mile" point. We started about 3:30pm and went south past the UTT parking lot at Millstream Rd. The trail continues about half mile past the parking lot. My bike computer indicated 9 miles at that end. Turned around and returned to the SS/H Rd parking lot for an 18 mile ride. There was more shade than we expected! Very pleasant ride except for several spots along the trail where the "ground" gravel has accumulated into areas that make for very soft spots (similar to riding through sand). We have mountain bikes/tires so we were fine. But those with thinner tires should try to avoid those soft areas.

We saw several people riding, running and walking. But it wasn'tWe too busy! There are several access points and several of them have porta potties. Other than Route 539, the roads you have to cross over were not busy. We'd definitely recommend this trail!
