Silver Comet Trail

Epic Trip with Kids (12 and 14)

April, 2018 by jbulot

Was planning on this being an overnight bike trip, as the kids have never done more than a 10 mile ride. We packed overnight gear, etc. Unfortunately, the forecast for the 2nd day turned sour and the kids decided to push through and finish the ride in one day! they did great - largely on the original rail/paved trail. Towards Rockmart and Cedar Town, it diverted through some downtown areas and some of the uphills were rough..but by and a large a great trail! Both kids left with a great deal more confidence than when they started!

Scenic and long. Great trail to rack up milieage. Pavement is excellent and we'll maintained. Plenty of rest stops for the weary. Go get it.

South River Trail

Best kept secret, so far

April, 2018 by maplover2

Rode the 6 miles of concrete trail from Entrenchment Creek trailhead, over to and through Gresham Park, alongside Barack Obama School and past Sugar Creek golf course (safety netting in place), under 285 (cool) and over to the Georgia State University GPC campus. Excellent condition, very few users, lots of sites to see, parks, schools, golf courses, and it will eventually link to the eastern stretch of the trail that runs from MLK High School near Panola Shoals out to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit which is also a nice trail. Fun fact, in January 2018, a portion was renamed the Michelle Obama Trail in honor of her commitment to getting young folks moving. Sign in place at GSU campus end of trail.

Stone Mountain Trail

Centennial Olympic Park to Stone Mountain

March, 2018 by rondahardesty

This was our first trail ride, had a great time. The trail is beautiful. Yes there are a few spots that you have to ride on the road but it is easy and safe. 95 percent of the ride is on a paved trail. One harry spot that is about 500 feet but other than that, this trail is super. DO IT !!

Whetstone Creek Trail

Good for Walking the Dog

February, 2018 by ejillgriffin

I was delighted when this trail opened in my neighborhood!
My Belgian Sheepdogs and I take advantage of the fenced-in paved path for a nice off-leash walk, as often as possible.
The raised wooden walkway that winds through the forest is beautiful, and in the Springtime, the ancient Wisteria Forest is spectacular in full bloom!

Silver Comet Trail

Tara Dummond to Coot's Lake

July, 2017 by ledoux245

Roughly a 26-mile round trip, this is a beautiful stretch of the Silver Comet trail. It is pretty flat most of the way, all though I joked with my wife that it seemed like it was uphill both ways. It practically always seemed like we were going slightly uphill, but I guess that was an illusion, since clearly we couldn't have been going uphill both ways! There is a lot of shade and the ride is interesting as you ride through forests, over a high bridge, and through a couple of tunnels. One thing to know: the beach at Coot's Lake is no longer open to the public. We got caught in an unexpected heavy thunderstorm and sought shelter there until the storm passed, but were rebuffed by the owner. We were two veterans on July 4th simply seeking shelter from the rain for a few minutes. Sad. Anyway, stay away from there - they don't want you there. Otherwise, the trip was great.

Ride in the Woods - Cedartown to Borden Springs

June, 2017 by ajw

We parked at Esom Hill, close to the GA/AL border. We rode the Comet east to Cedartown mi53 (see my reviews of other sections of Comet), then turned around and rode west to Borden Springs. 27mi roundtrip. Trail is concrete in GA, then turns to asphalt in AL, but both well maintained. It runs through the woods almost the whole way. Shaded, but no scenery but trees. No facilities either. It is a rail-trail, and you think its flat, but its not. Esom Hill is the crest, and its down hill both ways from there - about 100ft elevation change on both sides. But its gradual, so its very doable. But you will notice the difference one direction over the other. Will return to do final west section.

Car Break-Ins

May, 2017 by able88

After a pleasant day of biking and upon our return to parking at the Browns Mill Trailhead, we found that our vehicle back window had been smashed, along with another trail patron's car. Had to get repaired this week. Be careful! They need a security patrol and cameras at this site.

Loved this Trail!

May, 2017 by gahanosh

First time on the Comet at the recommendation of a friend. He wasn't kidding - this is a great trail. Well maintained with beautiful scenery. Road the leg from the Georgia State line to Cedartown. Wow just wow. Will do again soon.

Arabia Mountain Trail

A lot of hills!

April, 2017 by denpep

This trail is about a 3 hour drive for us so we decided to give it a try. Its paved and very nice but if you are not use to hills be prepared, there are a lot of them. If you don't like hills I would not recommend this trail. For those that said it wasn't enough of a work out they must be out of their minds. We were headed to the Rockdale River Trail and met a local man
riding the trail and he warned us about the "monster" hill that went straight down. We were very thankful for that information.

Keswick Park Extension Trail

A Nice Start

March, 2017 by irisknapp

For it being just over a half mile it's a nice little trail. It was done very well. It's not much use for a serious walker, jogger or bicyclist but it's nice for a casual walk or to go on with kids.
The online map doesn't show where to park. We parked by Five Guys in the Walmart shopping center but there is also parking on the Keswick Park side by the adult softball field.
I hope there are plans for an extension. I drive to the Roswell/Alpharetta Greenway & Silver Comet on a weekly basis. Would love to have something closer to home. I LOVE Chamblee but we sorely lack a good trail.

South River Trail

The beauty of Nature

February, 2017 by chestershaven

My husband and I were visiting our godchild and she took me to the park for a walk. She says it is one of her favorites places to walk and reflect. I see why. To say it is beautiful is an understatement. We saw deer, foot prints of other wild life, sandy shoals and waterfalls. The next time we come we are bringing our bicycles. Awesome!
