This trail will, in time, be incorporated into the Empire State Trail.
So peaceful;everyone saying good morning;we walked the trails 4 miles
The path is very poorly maintained, with lot of potholes and tree roots coming out. Safer to ride with that cars to be honest.
This is a great trail to get from one side of the Bronx to another. The ride starts from Van Cortlandt Park in Riverdale to Pelham Bay Park. Recent improvements to this trail have made it even better. Enjoy the almost 10-mile ride through the Bronx, mostly off-road, with some parkway crossings.
Visit City Island, Orchard Beach, and Pelham Bay Park, all within a short distance. The Bartow-Pell Mansion is across from the trail on Shore Road. The mansion grounds are free and make for a nice place to stop for photos or just a break.
We ride this trail in the winter so there are hardly any people around, but I can picture this trail being crowded during the summer months. The trail is pretty flat the whole way so there is hardly any coasting, just a lot of pedaling.
Began my mountain bike excursion at dawn from Warbasse Junction on a mild November Saturday. Headed out on the Paulinskill Valley Trail through the Sussex Branch Trail intersection toward Mudcut Road. Two miles in there was a good-sized bear in the middle of the trail, forty yards ahead. Stopped, calmly backed up and turned around once the bear did. It added about four miles to the loop. The Great Valley stretch is not as well traveled as the trails it connects. Wide trail most of the way. Fine for hybrid bikes. Memorable ride. Loop was well marked in each direction.
A little difficult to get to but was worth it. Great route for all levels
All asphalt no real hills, places to eat behind the golf driving range and at the end of the Trail in Goshen. Also the first historic trotters horse track.
During the summer of 2017, I ran and/or rode my mountain bike along the entire trail (including Bordentown) twice. While it's so surprise that Frenchtown to Washington Crossing is a favorite among many reviewers, don't neglect the beauty of the trail from New Brunswick to Trenton. The trail is in very good shape overall, with some spots being in better shape than
Wide lightly trafficked rail trail that is great for a walk, easy hike, trail run or easy mountain bike ride. While the trail is wide, in some parts it is merely a footpath in the grass. Part of a loop that spans over 13 miles. Bug spray is recommended.
