Traction Line Recreation Trail

Simple straight flat

May, 2021 by staceys.feeney

Simple straight flat (most of the time) -- a pretty easy ride for anyone. Some sites to see, but photos are pretty representative of what you will see most of the time. There are a couple of opportunities to exit the path to head out on main roads and do a little looking around. This trail is next to residential, commercial, and a small university.

Saddle River County Park Bike Path

Nice trail but…

A LOT of walkers and joggers on the weekend. Trail is paved with a few options for different routes. Mostly very level.

Great Shady trail

May, 2021 by fjd8njjfp4

Great trail! From Goshen mile 1.5 and on is a long 2 mile gentle elevation gain. Very shady especially before noon. Can be tricky at spots particularly the awkward 3 road crossings which are very steep on either side. Saw several ppl get off and walk the bike up to the crossings. Otherwise a nice ride.

Walden-Wallkill Rail Trail

Fat tires needed for the northern section

May, 2021 by steve.schwinn

Rode this trail today. Started in Walden and at the northern end took roads to the southern end of the Wallkill Valley trail (under 2.5 miles) up to New Paltz. Returned via the roads most closely following the Wallkill River- about 34 miles.
The paved section was in great shape and deserves 5 starts. The northern section definitely requires a "fat tire" bike and is in need of some maintenance with one particularly bad wash out.

Walden-Wallkill Rail Trail

Easy Peasy

A nice easy trail for road biking, hiking, running, etc. Very flat and well paved. Nothing much to see on this route, but if you’re in the area it’s an easy one.

Maybrook Trailway

Maybrook trail from Brewster to Patterson

May, 2021 by SPanny

Our inaugural ride on the Maybrook trailway today. Rode from Lake Tonetta (Town of Southeast Park) in Brewster to Whaley Lake in Patterson and back, about 25 miles.
A real treat to ride on this brand-new trail, part of the Empire State system. The route out from Brewster starts flat and then becomes a very gradual uphill grade to Whaley Lake. Not really anything to be concerned about…very doable, and we enjoyed the gradual downhill for the second half of the ride. The route is very open – since the trail parallels the old (still there) tracks, there’s a feeling of openness – bright sun the entire way. The sections through Lake Tonetta, the “Great Swamp,” and the “Ice Pond” are very picturesque, with occasional view of hills in the distance along with the lake views. The best part is a 2 mile section along Whaley Lake – beautiful views of the lake and some very nice houses on the opposite shore. All in all, a great new trail – and in Fall this is going to be spectacular. A few notes: bathrooms available at Southeast Town Park (start of trail, adjacent to Lake Tonetta). I didn’t see any other bathrooms along the route, haven’t yet explored on-road possibilities e.g. nearby stores at the crossings. Bring sunscreen – very open, lots of sun. The route continues to Hopewell Junction where it picks up another section of the Empire State Trail – lots of info on the web.

DO NOT park at Maggie McFly’s. Lots of signs and I called. They directed me to other nearby commuter lots and parks

Nice trail well maintained but kinda boring. I had done another longer trail in the area and this was a bonus. It’s great that the locals have this amenity but it’s not a destination ride.

Maybrook Trail

Rode the northern part of this trail on 4/26/21 from Hopewell Junction to Holmes as part of my ride from New Paltz. Trail was scenic and smooth with few and easy road crossings. I imagine because of the width of the railroad tracks and the trail making this pretty much in the sun for most of the ride. Just keep in mind it’s not fully recorded in red on the trail map. Great trail if you want a great distance ride.
