This was primarily a recon mission planning for a longer ride. The trail does not disappoint, with lovely views and a lot of interesting wooden bridges (they break up trail monotony), locks, spillways and a farm market.
I initially was going to park one access north from the park. However, there is a sewage processing plant there. Need I say more? I doubled back and parked at Wy Hit Tuk.
A couple of notes about Wy Hit Tuk: You have to enter the trail by crossing a small, wooden bridge. I had forgotten about this by the time I got back and blew right by it. The landmark of I-78 crossing overhead --- which I had NOT passed under on the way in --- tipped me off that I had overshot. Also, the gates to this park are closed at sunset. Your car will be locked in, or so the sign says. So if you are heading back, set your watch. I don't know if they go by astronomical sunset or just when it gets dark. Either way, play it safe.

My wife and I moved to the Hearthstone community two years ago and love to walk the rail trail. Unfortunately, the trail has been blocked by multiple tree debris and is beyond passable. It has been a month since anything has been done. Can I get an update.
Enjoyed a bike ride from Tall Pines campground all the way to Lewes for lunch! What a gem!
My wife and I rode the Switchback this past weekend for the first time, and it was her first time off-road on a bike. The only part she had difficulty with was the last stretch of the downhill rock garden. This was a very fun ride, and I don’t recommend riding the whole 18 miles unless you’re in a mountain bike.
Since I recently moved to within walking distance of a trailhead, I’ve been on the D&L at least twice a week. To mix it up, I have started my routes at different points. Should I ever return to marathon training, I’ll probably run a point-to-point and have a friend drive me home. I can’t wait to see the trail in fall, along with the foliage all around me. It is a well-kept PA treasure.
I have an electric trike I use to shop & ride due to mobility issues & was hoping to use the trail to avoid riding on Rt 9 to get from Sunrise to Walmart. What I found was the trail not only ended Musket Rd, which I expected, but it had a guard rail with a hard to navigate narrow mount to exit the trail. That necessitated me to get off & try to push my trike up around the mound & guard rail. The rest of the trail from Lacey Rd to the guard rail was nice.
Pedestrian bridge complete south of Jim Thorpe! Rode approx 28 miles round trip from Slatington to Jim Thorpe and back. Trail head at Slatington had bathrooms, picnic tables, and food truck. The ride was mostly on trail with small sections on roads-not much traffic at all (note we were there on an overcast Tuesday-not sure what a sunny weekend would be like). With the Pedestrian Bridge we were able to go into Jim Thorpe for lunch with no problem! Flat trip although we thought perhaps slight grade going south to north. Scenic ride with river on one side and canal on other. Worth the 2 hour drive.
WE FIRST CAME TO LIVE IN PEMBERTON THREE YEARS AGO, AND WE WERE DELIGHTED TO FIND THE R-T TRAIL. WE WALKED IT ALMOST EVERY WEEK--WITH MY WIFE, OUR GRANDCHILDREN, ETC.
BUT FOR THE LAST TWO OR THREE MONTHS, IT HAS BECOME IMPASSABLE WITH SEVERAL TREES BLOCKING THE PATH, INCLUDING ON THE "Y" THAT RETURNS TO HANOVER STREET. WE HOPED IT WOULD BE CLEARED DURING THE SUMMER, BUT I GUESS THAT'S NOT GOING TO BE DONE!
PLEASE CLEAR THE FALLEN TREES!!! THANK YOU.

Just finished a two hour ride from my house in Wilmington Manor to the Riverfront in Wilmington and then back to Battery Park in New Castle. This connects along the Delaware River which I followedi to the end marked “private property”. Total time was 2 hours, three minutes; total distance 19.03 miles; total calories burned 592; average speed 9.3 mph; elevation gain 1,070 ft.
Pros: Great for bikers who just want to practice riding their bike and not having pedestrians in their way!
Cons: The scenery is okay - I biked in August in 90 degrees weather and there were dragonflies and butterflies in the air. I ALSO ran into a wild boar. I was biking and I saw a brown fluffy animal around 15 feet ahead of me, lumbering around. At first, I thought it was a baby bear but when I biked a bit closer, I saw it's white tusks from a distance. I had to turn my bike around and bike back to the starting point. I am not sure how safe it is to bike around wild animals, but there's my warning to you! Not taking any chances!
Overall experience: It could be better, but it wasn't really worth the drive up. I would bike there if I lived closer. Overall, it is a nice path to practice on - I would try again in the Fall.
Phase two of the new trail opened this past spring. They really did a fantastic job building it, and it is a pleasure to ride on. Now, you can go about 13 miles in one direction by connecting to the Junction-Breakwater trail towards Rehoboth. The road crossings are fairly frequent, but well marked. I'm happy to report that most drivers stop and waive bicyclists across. I'm excited about the prospect of the trail being completed all the way to Georgetown.
