Pomeroy and Newark Rail Trail

Wide, mostly paved, and just under 2 mi. easily ridden with hybrid bikes

July, 2020 by chessnut59

This has parts that are next to roads like sidewalks, but most of it is entirely off road. Though most of it is wide and paved, there is a section that is slightly narrower and has a backed pulverized tiny stone which makes a reasonably good surface for my road tires on my hybrid bike. It will get your bike frame dirty from what gets slung by your front tire. The grade is just a little steeper than most rail trails, but it doesn't last that long. It goes though a large complicated intersection. The traffic light walk don't walk system works well.

James F. Hall Trail

Wide, Paved, and 1.76mi.

July, 2020 by chessnut59

This trail was paved, wide, unfortunately only 1.76 miles long, and entirely off road. It, however, connects to Pomeroy and Newark Rail Trail which goes a little less than 2 miles. There is an active railroad paralleling the trail (we saw two trains go by while riding our bikes). There were parks, playgrounds, ball fields, a skate board rink, and adult exercise equipment along the path. The hills on the trail were both gentle and fun.

Middle Township Bike Path

Ferry to CM Zoo

July, 2020 by gayang16

In August 2019, I took the ferry to Lewes, DE. On the way back, I biked from the ferry to the CM Zoo. The bike path was well-maintained. The Cold Spring path had a lot of shade, which was wonderful on a 80F day. But once I hit the Middle Township bike path, I couldn’t find any shade at all. It was hot! Otherwise, it was a great and safe ride. I would do it again.

Great trail

D&L Trail

trail closed near tinicum

June, 2020 by judyweinstein

Great trail until you get close to tinicum. Trail completely closed. Had to go down and up steep embankment to get onto road. It reopens after 100 yards or so. We went up pa side from Stockton and returned on Nj side to avoid it on return. Nj side much wider.

Jack A. Markell Trail

Delaware Hidden Treasure!

June, 2020 by donnahde

My daughter took me for a bike ride and dinner for my birthday. I had no idea where we were going but it ended up being the Jack Markell Trail and I was blown away that I didn't know anything about this wonderful experience before this. It is amazing. So beautifully built and maintained. It went under and around areas I would never have biked thru. My partner and I are avid bird watcher/photographers and I can't wait for him to get his bike fixed so that we can take a leisurely meander thru with our cameras to see all the varieties of birds. The trail even goes thru the Peterson nature center!! Easy biking or walking. Also saw scooters and skateboards. Highly recommend!!

Chester Creek Trail

Parking and Access

June, 2020 by dacoach112266

I enjoy cycling this trail as it is relatively flat and short. I can usually complete the trail in less than an hour. However, parking is not good at all. There is only one place to park on the trail and does not have many access points. I parked a few times at Linvilla but riding down to the trailhead on Knowlton Rd is tight. Cars whip around the corner and there isn't a lot of space on the side of the road to ride.

Jack A. Markell Trail

Nice ride

June, 2020 by shanenlewis

Great ride as long as you know the beginning and end points. I’m from Wilmington and had a bit of trouble figuring out where the trail ended at Battery Park! At the beginning the signs are not the easiest to find! However, the trail itself is in great condition and the scenery is very nice. I’ve run into several animals including deer 3x now. Great for nature lovers.

Ben Franklin Bridge

Amazing view

June, 2020 by ramon.jessica

Can’t beat this view, especially for sunrise or sunset. Nice little breeze up there as well. Race Street Pier only half a mile away from the base of the Philly side entrance/exit. Also not too far from the Rocky Steps either if you want to make a run for it through Center City.

Tacony Creek Trail

We go weekly

June, 2020 by ramon.jessica

My family lives nearby so we take the kids and the dog over at least once a week. They walk or bike, throw rocks by the creek, etc. I also run the trail with the Tacony Running group, a program through TTF Watershed. We meet weekly also for several week segments throughout the year. Fairly easy trail, paved with some dirt trails leading off the main trail. Not too much traffic although it’s picked up some over the pandemic. One big hill at the end of the trail near the Cheltenham Ave. Gateway.
