Started at Blue Ball Barn and rode to Brandywine Creek, its the steepest paved trail I have ever been on with wicked swichbacks and places you had to get off thb bike going downhill. Very thick woods and quiet for an urban area. If I did that section again it would be without bikes.
While scenic, this trail is not marked at all. Even while on the outside trail loop, it was difficult to tell which direction to go at major trail intersections. Trail markings are essential to communicate where a hiker is currently, and where you need to go next. If you don't have WiFi, you can't count on referencing GPS or TrailLinks online map--which can be downright unsafe if you're a novice hiker or have young children.
Well-maintained. Things to do along the way, if you choose. Herons everywhere for bird-lovers. Great panoramic view from Lewes to Rehoboth. Highly recommend.
Great trail parking a little hard if you come at a busy time
Just updating the info for this trail, it is now open end to end. Enjoy.
I live super close to Battery Park and can actually access this park and it's subsequent trail through the Jack A. Markell trail, which is also very nice(10/10 recommend). But this trail offers great views, especially during sunrise and sunset. Never too crowded, lined with some trees along with labels on a few of them for their biological information to keep things interesting, and close enough to some shores of sand to collect shells, rocks, etc!
