Rode this train from White Haven to Jim Thorpe on 7/5/18. Shuttle from Blue Mountain Sports in Jim Thorpe was friendly and convenient; we parked our car at the day parking lot near downtown, which is situated at the end of the trail. The trail itself is cinder and crushed stone; we used hybrid bikes which were perfect (I wouldn't recommend a road bike). As advertised it's a slight downhill, but you still have to pedal to get where you're going! Most of the route is shaded and gives you nice views of the river. One caution: the last 30 minutes or so to the southern end (Jim Thorpe) are not shaded and thus took the wind out of our sails at the end a bit. There are other lots you can park in besides the day lot that are a little further up the trail, but I don't know how that would work with the shuttle. All in all, very nice trail and worth the trip.
A smooth, easy ride with lots of good scenery. Perfect ride before a dip in the ocean. A really nice day.
This multi-use Trail is a classic, paved greenway in a suburban Region that offers outdoor recreation and health-related benefits.
I walked the trail this morning.The trail needs work too overgrown.No bicycle riders on the trail they use 9w that can be too dangerous.

It has been on my list for a long time, because it's a good distance (25 miles according to my Strava) and it's only an hour drive from me. I am glad I can cross it off my list. Not in my top 5, but I many trails, so it has stiff competition. The trail itself is in pretty good shape, and no trail is perfect. The scenery to me would rate average at best, but again it has very stiff competition from the places I have visited. I definitely suggest a visit so you can decide for yourself.
Caution. After visiting many bike trails thanks to TrailLink, my only complaint is that some of the parking areas need to be reviewed more carefully. In this case I kept driving past the northern most parking area listed in Goshen and went to one midway in Monroe just off Route 17. It is a Park & Ride, very nicely paved, well lit, safe and right next to the trail.
Always take the address/directions/GPS to more than one parking lot and visit the TLink site just before departing for any updates. I drove 2.5 hours to Windsor Locks, CT to find out the entire trail was closed temporarly, and my only parking lot address closed for the entire year. But I will go back, because the trails themselves have not let me down.
Took this as an alternative to the narrow shoulder section of 9W and much like another post from last year, it's still completely overgrown - I was able to pass on 25mm tires, but it definitely wasn't easy. A ton of small rocks underneath the greenery, a fallen tree, some wet sand, etc...
The trail really has potential if it were properly maintained.
Parked at White Haven with objective to bike up Black Diamond portion to northern-most point. We have sturdy hybrid bikes, but after 5 miles decided to turn around and head back south for better trail conditions. Really would have benefited from a mountain bike in that area - the trail is not crushed stone and only two thin car-tire type tracks a good portion of the way. A lot of rocks, ruts, and bumps you cannot see well in the shade of the trees. A family attempted it pulling a toddler carrier and quickly turned around. We then went south from White Haven for the more enjoyable trail. FYI if you don’t pay attention to the elevation, any northern sojourn is up a steady incline so you will tire faster. If you want a more relaxing ride, always head south.
Pictures don’t do it justice. Get your mountain bike or cross country bike ready and hit this trail! First section of the trail is a bit busy with pedestrians, but it becomes nice and clear once you start entering the woods further north.
The trail started off great, but starlight park entry is closed and the detour is pretty far out of the way. We rode from manhattan to Bronx on bikes so we decided not to finish the trail
This is an amazing area rich in history and scenery. There is parking at either end and two points in between . This trail also connects to the Warren railroad and Pequest furnace. The L&HR trail still has many artifacts from it's railroad days. Other than the initial descent at the intersection of 31 and 46 the trail is very flat and easy to walk. Just an amazing place.
Yes trail is paved and is great to ride smooth pavement. Was wondering why there are no entrance signs to trail. Was at Monroe, Airport Park, and there are NO MARKINGS as to where one is to enter trail. Noted small goat paths from parking lot to trail. Also was wondering why when heading South that there is no notice that trail dead ends with a chain link fence. Wonder how many law suits from hitting fence or rider dumping their bikes. Good thing that I was not goin down that hill at a fast pace, 20 plus mph. Also this trail is no way a 1. The North and South directions from Monroe are hills that are 5 degrees or more and each are 2.5 miles or longer. This would be a work out for any beginner. Just a note that I was riding a Catrike Expedition. I have about 3k miles riding trikes. Would have been nice if there was a entrance that a trike would be able to enter Trail.
Got on the bike train at Jim Thorpe and rode for 1.5 hours on train to White Haven. Got our bikes off train and rode the trail back to Jim Thorpe. Most of trail is easy to ride and is downhill. Total length back to parking is 24.6 miles. Saw some waterfalls, rafters and kayakers on the Lehigh River, two old locks from the canal, and walked through one old train tunnel. The towns buildings look like they are from the 1800's with many shops and restaurants. Plan this as an all day event. Would do this trip again.
