We rode 13 miles of the east end, starting in Chehalis. Paved section is in pretty good shape. Transitions onto and off of bridges are pretty rough but doable. Gravel sections that we did were in great shape and an easy ride. Really enjoyed this trail. If you come in August bring a container for black berries!
Took my son with his gravel bike while I took my mountain bike. We were hoping to go from the Sammamish River Trail all the way to W Snoqualmie Valley Rd NE in Duvall & then to McCormick Park. As the previous reviews state, this trail is extremely hilly & can be slippery - wide tires are practically a must. Here are my observations:
- The hill closest to 148th Av NE in Woodinville is the best part, in my opinion, to try to climb. I don't know what the actual grade is, but it feels like 55% - LOL. The other hills on the trail are impressive climbing, too.
- I used 700 x 45 tires, & I would still slip on occasion while climbing.
- Really nice neighborhoods with scenic homes & cool horse stables will be traversed.
- No water or restroom facilities.
- Where the trail ends at NE 133rd Street is DISGRACEFUL. There are no signs on the Tolt Pipeline Trail indicating that NE 133rd St is not an option to exit/enter the trail. When my son & I arrived at that point, we were flabbergasted that we could not proceed further (I know, I know: I should have read the reviews previously). We did not trespass & just u-turned it back up the hill. In addition, there is a dirt path on the left side at the same spot which we thought might be an option. Well, that is also prohibited as there are signs indicating, "No Trespassing." So, turn off at 232nd Av NE if you want to go further east.
As of August 2026, it is still a great trail. It is my most go-to trail. Lots of vegetation all along the way.
Rode the trail out and back on our tandem today. The trail is very well maintained, but there are a fair number of root bumps, some marked and others no, so keep your eyes peeled. Great to have some rollers here and there to make the ride a little different than most rail trails. Stopped in Arlington Velo for a quick check of my front disc brake and they were amazing. Got it taken care of quickly and a grabbed a few pair of their wool socks too. Lived Arlington Velo. The town is great is well with an ice cream store that you don’t want to miss. Great day overall.
The storms & floods last fall lifted two creek bridges off their foundations and moved them aside and for most bicycle riders are impassable. The first is about 10 miles from the Fruitland Ave trailhead, just after you go across 100 ft of very nasty large angular rocks (you'll know it when you cross them). The good news is that the detour around them is easy and pleasant.
Just go out onto the nearby road at the first one, access is obvious. This is the Lyman-Hamilton Rd, which has very little traffic on it. Follow that east until it morphs into Maple St. Turn left at the "Bike 10" left arrow sign in "downtown" Hamilton (about 2/3 mile from start of detour), onto Petit St. Go north about 0.2 mile to the "Bike 10" right arrow. Turn right. At that point you are on the old detour that has been there forever. Follow it east about 0.15 mile and look for an unmarked access path on your left, just past the small swamp/lake on each side of the road. This puts you back on the Cascade Trail.
Just after you start this detour the road makes a sharp right bend and crosses the Cascade Trail. You may be tempted to get back on it at that point. If you do, you will encounter the second bridge that was moved off its foundation and probably need to back track to the road anyway.
Given that the detour is so easy and pleasant, don't bother with these bridges. My guess it that it is very unlikely they will be fixed in the forseeable future, especially given that the first one was already partly off its foundation, req'd walking/hefting your bike anyway, and may probably been that way for many years.
This paved path is in two sections, separated by a commercial road with a bike lane only on the west-bound side of the road. The pavement has a lot of bumps where tree roots have pushed sections up, making it quite bumpy. Otherwise, it's nice to ride along viewing the Columbia River, the beach, and seeing friendly people and dogs; the path is wide enough the entire stretch for everyone but it is busier the closer you get to Vancouver city center.
This is a gorgeous trail along a calm lake. It's very popular, filled with people (many jogging) and dogs of all ages and sizes. The path is fairly narrow and overgrown over much of the trail as it is mainly a walking trail through the woods; it's also somewhat muddy (even in July) with little streams crossing it in a few places. Given the narrowness and popularity, this is NOT a good place to be biking; we made it work but constantly had to slow down and even wait a couple of times because people were coming and going and there just wasn't room to get around. I may go walking here sometime in the future but I will not take my bike again.
Level, wide, and flat, this gravel multi-use path with short spurts of pavement where the city of Washougal set up parks or river access points is a peaceful bike ride along the Columbia River. Walkers and joggers, young families and old couples were out enjoying the Saturday morning before it got hot. Lots of Lewis & Clark history along the way. The reason I didn't rate it higher is because it's short and not paved.
Trail is becoming overgrown with blackberries and there still is the one serious washout. No sign of maintenance and even the Oso Memorial needs gardening help. That being said this is a nice ride and the Memorial is worth visiting. Good gravel and partly paved. Visit the general store in Oso which is 101 years old. Coffee, ice cream and nice folks.
We rode this trail in two sections; 1) From the trailhead, where it meets up with the Golden Tiger Pathway, to the north end of Curlew Lake. 2) From the trail end in Danville, south to the community of Curlew. The first section goes along Lake Curlew, offering lots of views of the lake. There are several benches to stop and enjoy the views from. This section of trail is fine crushed rock and is in excellent shape. crushed rock and is in very good shape
Started from the West end. No dedicated parking, some space along the road, maybe for 20. Nice thing trail had lots of shade. But it also has many forks without any signs where to go. Make sure you are on TrailLink app. Also, this trail is actually three trails - Discovery, Burnt Bridge and some other.
