I really have to congratulate Pigeon Forge on this one. This trail along the river is very well done. If you park at Patriot Park you leave the park and cross the street then follow sidewalk past several houses before you get to where it looks like bike trail so it can be confusing if you don't know that. Also when you get to the Island you have to cross a couple of bridges and take a right where the trail goes behind a building back to the river so also confusing. My first time on this trail I had to ask an Island employee. Very worth it though! Trail goes under the bridges so you are not crossing the parkway.
This trail is alongside Veterans Parkway in Pigeon Forge. It's a good ride if you like a lot of hills because almost none of it is flat. You will either be riding uphill or coasting down pretty much the entire way. At the Sevierville end the trail goes back towards town, past an old church and to the community center, which is also a great place to park and use the bathroom.
Great greenway!!! Nice and peaceful! Majority shaded. Pavement smooth and well cared for. Maps of this area not so good- hard to follow. Easy to follow and access when actually on greenway though. Best greenway in town and surrounding area!!!
Just ride this trail October 14th. Nicely paved trail all the way and pretty ride with a creek alongside at times and a few ponds and fountain. Some short hills in the Alcoa sections. Easy access from various places. We parked in the parking lot behind the Maryville courthouse and jumped right on the trail there and headed north towards Alcoa. When we came into town, we stopped first at the Maryville Visitor Center and they gave us a map and highlighted the trail and key points for us. This is a good idea because though the trail is great it is not marked in a number of places so easy to get puzzled as to which way to go. We did 18 miles total by going up and back and then a few miles south from the parking lot.
Biked this trail from The Wilderness Trail State Park Visitors Center out East about 2 miles to the end then back and explored the reconstructed fort and Martin's Station. We then proceeded West for about 6.2 miles. All of this was well cared for trail. There are buffalo in one section on the trail and you can walk up steps to get close to their fenced field. We were cautioned by the ranger at the Visitors Center that the trail deteriorated once it left the State Park grounds. It certainly did. It ran right along route 58 and was over grown with weeds and a poor base. We turned around before reaching the National Park as riding beside the highway on a shifting base wasn't much fun. There are educational signs along the trail and we enjoyed learning about the history of the trail. The scenery is beautiful and we didn't meet another biker only a few walkers. It was a very nice stop on our way through the area.
Road this today and unfortunately didn't make it past the part near the road that is way to Streep with the gravel. Ended up on my side with a slit in my shin and had to head back to the road and back to the car. Beautiful day but don't recommend this on a bike.
Great trail for the whole family, but if your riding a trike or single speed bike, I suggest sticking to the north end of the trail. Its a bit more level.
My wife and I ride this frequently, usually in the evening well into the night. The trail follows 3rd creek and is hard to tell you're in the middle of the city. From Tyson to Bearden is just slightly uphill but once in Bearden lots of places to refresh, Bearden Beer Market, Hard Knox Pizza, and many other places for food and beverage. We usually turn around from here and make the ride to Calhoun's for more food and beverages. The trail through Tyson Park is OK, never had any problems or seen any scary people even after dark. The ride past the water treatment plant is a none issue. We have never smelled any funk while riding past and is kind of interesting to see up close. Nice to have such a great, safe place to ride year around.
This is not a bad trail but because I am a native I can pick my way through. A couple of weeks ago when we had low humidity a couple came over from North Carolina to ride. Showing them around I realized how poorly this trail (G) is marked. It crosses Neyland several times in the first couple of miles but it is not marked. And as others reviewers have mentioned there are some questionable people hanging around so both male and female riders should be alert. Personally I have not had any problems but I avoid them and don't take chances. I use the restrooms that you can take your bike in with you.Getting through the construction by the utility company just got worse this week. Again there are signs saying detour but I never found the detours but did see a rider getting in the street to get to Third Creek. But that is a real dangerous stretch there near Concord street. Even after I gave up went home and looked online with my laptop I didn't see access to the "detours".
It is a very scenic ride. The water treatment plant is not a problem for me - you are not near it long and it doesn't smell like it did when we were kids. The wooden bridges (on the trail) can be very dangerous when they are wet and leafy but just slow your roll.
Four stars when they get the construction blockage worked out but until then very frustrating. Stay away on UT events especially football.
This ranks as one of the ugliess trails I have ever been on. If you like smelly sewer plants, trashed out and polluted creeks and plenty of goose crap, this is the trail for you. The section through Tyson park is full of sketchy folks to top it all off. A women was stabbed to death on a section of this trail near Bearden a couple of weeks ago.
