We only walked a small section of the trail starting in Dobbs Ferry. The OAC is lined with trees and has plenty of shade. It’s wide enough to keep social distancing (important these days). There are beautiful homes to look at along the walk. Great for city people who just want to make a day trip.
My wife and I rode this trail on 5/16/20 from Brewster, NY south to the crossing with Rt 118 in Baldwin Place and back...about 24 miles total. The trail is in good shape, we enjoyed the views of Middle Branch Reservoir, Lake Gleneida, and Lake Mahopac. The trail runs through several towns like Carmel, but between towns it tucks well behind the roads to provide a really pleasant, through-the-woods experience. The trail does have some ups and downs...but none of them were too bad and it was nice to have a little variation from the typical "flat" rail-trail. The most significant "up" was from Brewster south during the first 5 miles or so. A little south of Baldwin Place the trail is a little rough and needs some work, but it's more than passable. All in all, very much worth a trip! Glad to see lots of people out on the trail.
We rode our bikes all the to Southwick, Massachusetts.... what a beautiful ride. Paved trails and amazing scenery. Just asking for consideration if you are going to stop, pull of the paved trail. People tend to stop in the middle not giving consideration to the bikers, joggers and people walking
The trail is perfect for bikes and has benches to rest
Ok but crowded
Thought it would be helpful to note that this trail is open for bikes and pedestrians
We made a attempt to ride this small section of the old put. We were informed by a park ranger that it was temporarily closed. The trail is under a massive renovation. It is being paved with asphalt along its length to the entrance of the South County Trailways It is slated for re open summer 2020. Ill try and post some pictures.
In very good shape compared to southern county trail. More hills than expected when cycling south from northern entrance. Scenic ride
Amazing trail. It’s a great full one or two day trek. I did a 30 mile loop in just over 4 hours, which wasn’t very pleasant to endure, but if you gave yourself ~6 hours you could ride the entire trail (just over 20 miles) in one day, assuming you didn’t have to ride back.
I have ridden this in its entirety, usually starting from Midtown. I have taken it all the way north to Van Cordtland park. South of 125th can get quite congested, especially on nice days.
Short piece of trail, but descent views of the Hudson.
I went on this trail in May, and it was the perfect weather. Warm, sunny, and thoroughly enjoyable. Nestled in the city, it is the perfect balance of urban/industrial vibes.
