Great ride. Rode East and had a great time. I recommend grabbing a small trail map early so you know where bathrooms and tool kits are located.

Tobacco Heritage Trail

Great trail all to myself

September, 2020 by josh.boyer

I've biked this trail twice since August. Love it. The first time I saw three other cyclists, and the second time I saw one. It's all flat or nearly flat. The unpaved part between Brodnax and Lawrenceville varies between nice hardpack and slow sand, but my gravel bike did fine with it, as I'm sure a mountain bike would. The forest on this trail is hardwood trees. It was great to disappear into the woods by myself for a while. I'll be back, even though I live 80 miles away.

Tobacco Heritage Trail

A hidden gem

September, 2020 by jules_phelps

Rode round trip starting in Lawrenceville and it was spectacular! We loved every minute of it. We rode with gravel bikes and the surface was perfect and well maintained. We will definitely be going back soon. With Covid restrictions, there wasn't anywhere to eat lunch, but there were plenty of places on our way back home.

Virginia Capital Trail

My buddy and I did the round trip this past Sunday, Aug 30. Beautiful day for a long ride.

Beautiful scenery and a great trail for our bike ride. Paid $5 for parking in the state park.

Virginia Capital Trail

Great bike trail!

August, 2020 by jhadland2

We started the trail in Jamestown. The trail is well maintained, mostly flat and not too crowded. We rode out to the Sherwood Forest Plantation and turned around. 34 miles round trip. The challenge of the day was the Chickahominy River Bridge. Steep but fun and rewarding view when you get to the top. 100% recommend.

High Bridge Trail

Nice easy and scenic ride. The view from the bridge is beautiful and picturesque. Plenty of shade over the trail.

Tobacco Heritage Trail

OK. The paved portion in nice; the rest of the trail: ugh! Atractive woodland setting, but poorly maintained. Frequent sections were marked by deep sand and loose gravel. Very tiresome to navigate and ride. And not a tobacco plant within miles. LOL

Healthy bear population...

June, 2020 by richard.ware

Started from Pamplin in the morning of June 12. Half a mile in, we spotted someone on the trail running away from us. As it turned so that we saw it in profile, we realized that it was a bear. Turned around double quick! Will not be going on this trail again.

High Bridge Trail

Impressive Bridge- Boring Ride

June, 2020 by sksingleton1984

My husband I, both fairly new to biking, parked at Elam and rode into Farmville, then on another 4.5 miles to High Bridge. The gravel trail was flat, slight inclines here and there. You can hear but not see the traffic on 460 for parts of it. Rode in and out of shady patches and could really feel a temperature change when we did. Stopped at 2 of the restrooms along the trail. Very clean and with plenty of hand sanitizer but no running water. The view was pretty much the same until we got to Farmville. Just long, straight, tree lined . Not my favorite rail trail , but the bridge itself was pretty spectacular. Got bored on the way back more so than going towards the bridge. we got to FarmVille/

Powhatan Creek Trail

Beautiful!

June, 2020 by myoungfighter

Hi. So, I tried this trail for the first time.. starting from the elementary school.. I loved it!! It was perfect.. the scenery is amazing.. and to get to see some history along the way, it was a great feeling.. There are some hills in the beginning, very doable.. and some turns.. and 2 bridges, that are lovely.. I will say, I did not notice any mile markers, so it was confusing to tell when I approached Greensprings, as I was hoping it would be obvious, so I could turn around and head back.. but I couldn’t tell.. so I just turned around when the watch said 2.4 miles..
