No helpful trail markers or signs.

September, 2020 by dlgeisinger

We came on a beautiful September day in the middle of the week. The entrance to the park was well marked on the Columbia Trail but after that you're on your own. Turn left and we ended up in someone's backyard, turn right and it only went for about half a mile with a couple of buildings that did have signs but ended at two bridges you couldn't cross. No signs anywhere that things were closed for any purpose. We asked two locals walking dogs along the trails where things led and they didn't know any more than we did. Said they had lived there for two years and still couldn't figure it out. We came with mountain bikes but there was no way we could use them safely, plan on hiking it only. So overall it was a pretty disappointing experience and we did the whole thing in half an hour.

Saddle River County Park Bike Path

Wow! Great!

September, 2020 by lughnerson

Wednesday afternoon September 16, 2020
Weather: Glorious mid 70's and dry

I usually ride trails, but this linear park was just wonderful. VERY scenic for an urban park with the Saddle River (a stream really) and several large ponds, lots of forest. I even saw several deer and wild birds. Off the nice asphalt there as some dirt single-track for the more adventurous bikers. Lots of nice parking, bathrooms and other amenities. This is the best urban biking I have ever done. When I was done riding ever part of the path, back and forth, my Strava said 18+ miles. Thanks New Jersey.

Lake Iliff Trail

Great Walk for Seniors

September, 2020 by mdelhauer

My wife and I love to walk in scenic outdoor areas. This level path is perfect. Enough length to get exercise without overdoing it. Easy access from both ends. Parking is limited at Mulford Rd but there is a paved parking lot at the Lake Iliff Rd trailhead.

Pittman orchard

September, 2020 by lia_fangs

Rode with my friends Sept 19, 2020. Started at Pittman’s orchard which was the wrong choice. Single and narrow track and met with lotsa roots and rocks and then the stairs. We made it alive though after encountering 2 cubs by Dingman’s. I suggest an easy start at Hialeah for an easier and more scenic ride. Carry a bear spray too if you decide riding during cooler weather.

Taylor SteelWorkers Historical Greenway

Partial closure as of summer 2020

September, 2020 by sluberoff

Seems like part (most?) of the trail is closed as of July 2020 by order of the mayor of the Borough of High Bridge due to "unsafe conditions." Supposedly, the order is only temporary, but the trails are still closed despite the order having nominally expired. Not sure when/if the trails will actually reopen.

A short stretch of the trail from the Columbia Trail to the Union Forge Bridge is still open. The part that's open is interesting, so I hope the rest reopens within a reasonable timeframe.

North County Trailway

Nice training ride but some issues

September, 2020 by ohsunjoo

Great trail with greens and manageable hills. But some dangerous crossings and noise highways. Recommend ear buds. I wouldn’t take my kids for whole trail. Just south is fine. Will definitely go during foliage season.

Sussex Branch Trail

nice easy ride, mostly in woods

September, 2020 by bgoldburg

Rode from the trail parking lot in Andover to Lafayette. IPhone said 8 miles each way. My husband rode a commuter bike which did fine on this stretch. We saw two bow hunters from the trail - we had not realized that deer season had just started - and were happy we had worn vivid colored shirts, albeit to be visible to cars. We stopped for brunch at the Millside cafe in Lafayette, which is visible from the trail. I recommend it as a tasty destination!

Sandy Hook Multi-Use Pathway

not recommended for bikers

September, 2020 by eddyzhd

There is nothing interesting to explore here IMO. Btw there is no shade so it’s extremely hot in summers.

New Springville Greenway

Good ride

September, 2020 by peterv328

This is a nice ride as it takes you thru some wooded areas then you drive along Richmond Ave for a good part. You can continue along a very narrow path on Arthur Kill Rd to get into Bloomfield park and continue your ride in there as well.

Loantaka Brook Reservation Trail

generally good

September, 2020 by eddyzhd

My review is more conservative. This bike trail is mostly in the woods where you don’t get sunburn. There is also a an asphalt /gravel path for your choice. It’s worth a normal weekend visit but not a special tour to it

Columbia Trail

Bucket list !!

September, 2020 by teresanj50

Awesome, peaceful, beautiful surroundings. Loved the break of trails they town on road then back in the woods. Tree farms.
