The gate connecting the trail from Ocmulgee Mounds to the Heritage Trail was locked and a sign said "connection no longer available". Signage from parking at Central City Park was poor. Along the trail from the park we encountered major highway construction with lots of mud in 2 different places. We crossed through places where homeless people were camped. We never got to any interesting areas of Macon. In the section we did, the streets we went on were in high traffic areas with lots of commercial properties and fast food type restaurants. Based on what I had read about the trail ahead of time, we were very disappointed with what we found.
Currently under construction. Will be nice trail when construction is complete. Ample parking and nice historic exhibits at main office. Will return in the future.
Newly upgraded trail that is now 4.5 miles long. Beautiful scenic trail that is NOT flat. It is essentially a V shaped terrain. It starts with a 1.5 mile gradual slope southward followed by a 3 mile uphill slope. Slightly challenging uphills grade
Trail has nice hidden gems like quiet streams/creeks and beautiful homes along the golf course. You will have to compete with teens driving golf carts like their on the Indy 500. Some areas of trail are quite bumpy and uneven, almost wiped out on a downhill. Otherwise city and Lake Peachtree is beautiful.
Get a hotel and stay for a couple days. For casual cycling it's a wonderful town and path system. There are a lot of golf carts, so be mindful of that if you bring the kids. But accidents are rare. Most people drive safely. Walking the paths can be a little daunting at times because of the golf carts. Be aware and maybe avoid earbuds while walking or riding. We live here, and like most PTC residents we welcome visitors. Every store, restaurant, and hotel in Peachtree City is on the path system. Bridges and tunnels bypass the regular roads. Road bikes are not recommended. Bring a comfort, mountain, or e-bike. Everyone is friendly and it's a very safe town.
I rate this trail as one of the easiest trails to ride, especially if you are a beginner to riding bike trails or just getting back into bike riding. No steep hills to deal with, and you get to ride at a good pace. Defiantly a trail kids and adults can ride with ease. You can even go around the trail a few different ways to extend your ride.
Just rode 5 miles! Lovely improvements made and a lot of opportunity!
10/16/2021 The trail runs through the town and behind Callaway Gardens, but abruptly stops at a fence before the old railroad crossing over the highway. It looks complete, but wondering why it's still blocked off. The other side at the country store I believe snakes down to the rail alignment, but it's blocked as well. It's good till that point. The county has a website stating the whole trail fr town to country store is open.
This was hard to find and harder to find the start. No maps of the trail were posted where I parked (somewhere near 22nd). I was a bit sketched on leaving my car unattended as some rando in a pedo van was sitting there (left when I got out). Anyways, I made it 1.3 and had no clue where to go but back. Judging by the money spent on the city hall, I’m sure they could use some to pick the trash up along the trail. I wouldn’t recommend this trail without figuring the whole trail out.
