Crown Zellerbach Trail

Best in the dry season

February, 2020 by spitchgrizwald

Ran half of it (from Vernonia) with a friend today (2/27), and it was very muddy. We had fairly appropriate tires, but full mountain bike knobbies would have certainly helped. The trail would be much more enjoyable after about three rain-free weeks. The first stretch out of Vernonia is pretty steep, but once you cross the paved road it levels out a lot. One other thing to note is that if you ride the paved road on the return leg, the chance of an encounter with an angry motorist is pretty likely. We had several.

Whistle Punk Interpretive Trail

Fun with Kids

February, 2020 by kykate

The Whistle Pink Trail is an interpretive walk through the woods, beside old pieces of logging equipment. There are signs to explain the role of the equipment and the role of the “whistle punk”. Easy walk with children, loops back to the parking lot. There you will find picnic tables and toilets. Nice way to spend an afternoon.

Banks-Vernonia State Trail

Winter walk

The trail was so pretty and scenic. It seemed to be in good repair (except for several downed trees along the path). The wooden bridges and walkways can get super slick, but otherwise a really nice walk next to the creek.

Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail

Cascade Locks to dam.

July, 2019 by mrsduijoe

There is a long flight of stairs about 2.5 miles from Cascade Locks and the trail is pretty narrow for trikes. The portion from Hood River to Mosier is beautiful and one of my favorites.

Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail

Scenic but short

May, 2019 by tony.dangerfield

I hadn't been back to that part of the gorge since the fires. I started at the Yeon trailhead with a road bike. It is still very scenic. I would advise some caution as the road surface has enough bumps etc due to cracks and roots that I was cautious about bending a rim. I'd planned to ride into Cascade Locks but at roughly the 4.4 mile mark there is a couple flights of stairs. I chose that as a turn around point so ended up with something like an 8.9 mile ride instead of 12.5. I'd do it again with a single speed or something to make this scenic route a bit more challenging or loop it in with something a bit grander.

Burnt Bridge Creek Trail

Pleasant easy trip

March, 2019 by jeananne.edwards

Since this is close to the house we frequently hit the Burnt Bridge Creek Trail. It is pleasant, has a variety of views and frequent wildlife. It can get really crowded on pretty weekend days and you have to watch out for little ones.
