Ontario Pathways Rail Trail

Great trail for an easy somewhat quick ride

September, 2020 by kbg32

I did this trail on a grey day. The ride was flat, not technical. I did flat about 5 miles in due to a huge thorn. There were lots of debris from trees due to recent storms. My in-laws live here and this trail was the perfect length in distance and time for a ride to get away for a bit. I rode my gravel bike with 40mm tires which was perfect. I only passed two people walking dogs and a couple of other cyclists on hybrids on my return. I would just caution people that there are a number of road and farm road crossings. Definitely slow down and stop to make sure no traffic is coming.

Ontario Pathways Rail Trail

Great Trail For Walking But Needs Benches

September, 2020 by baqzp7dgsw

My husband and I hiked this from Stanley to Canandaigua and just loved it. Mind you, it’s September and the manure smell wasn’t bad at all at this time of year. We have been walking a trail a day to raise $ for a charity and are up to 9 rail trails so far and over 144 miles to date. This was by far the easiest and kindest to our feet! Lots of soft, well maintained grass and also mossy areas in shadier places. Again, this was from Stanley to Canandaigua. I’d listen to other reviewers for the Phelps side of the trail. BTW, the Stanley to Canandaigua side has the delightful Pooh Corner signs, at least 12 or more! It could use more benches...there is only one.

Ontario Pathways Rail Trail

Definitely mountain bike material

September, 2020 by ddylla

Ontario Pathways is mostly single track and grass with occasional spots with gravel and stone dust. It is well maintained in terms of mowing and trimming back trees but would definitely suggest using a mountain bike if cycling on either leg of this trail. The trail goes through rural forested areas and pretty farmland. Canandaigua on the west terminus offers the only services on the route.

Oswego County Trail

Great for short walks but not paved so I don’t recommend it for over 5 miles but seems good for ATVs

Jim Schug Trail

Really awesome wetlands

September, 2020 by crmorgan1

Don't let Mt Bike trail comment scare u. Nice bike trail and has been extended south to Freeland. Great natural wetands as well as Dryden lake. A few areas are sod but brief. Don't plan to have access to restrooms with Covid. Bikers and hikers Labor Day but no horses.

Black Diamond Trail

Awesome trail

September, 2020 by crmorgan1

If this trail was any more smooth it would be concrete. Northern most point has awesome waterfall and southern most connects with a waterfront paved trail which u shouldn't miss.

Erie Canalway Trail

Amsterdam area

September, 2020 by edpepper99

Trail near Amsterdam is pretty scenic and has potential to be really nice, however, the trail both East and West of Amsterdam was very bumpy in spots with many tree roots pushing thru the old pavement. Some sections need to be repaved.

Keuka Outlet Trail

great novice cycle trail

September, 2020 by gohbec

Rode my hybrid cruiser along half the trail from Penn Yan to Seneca Mill Falls. It was overcast, threatening to rain just before sunset or otherwise would have gone further. It’s true that riding East is much easier that West. The smell of manure and sewer were a little strong for a short distance but the cliffs and the stream were beautiful. Will try it again from the eastern side soon.

Oswego County Trail

Nice Bikeride

August, 2020 by 5m5qvjs64m

Parking situation was easy, I drove by it at first because I didn’t see any markings for it though. Just a open area full of gravel. Trail was mostly compact dirt with some areas of pavement/gravel. Dirt wasn’t too beat up, besides some divots from ATVs that use the trail also. Any gains/drops in elevation were very gradual, not too difficult to manage on a bike. Trees provide shade a majority of the time which was nice. About 5 road crossings within the first 5 1/2 miles I rode East. Enjoyable ride, will likely do again soon.

Keuka Outlet Trail

What a GEM!

August, 2020 by mattdean

My 11 year year old daughter and I tackled this trail in late August. We had a blast. Effortless traveling from West to East. Surprisingly easy headed back West. The group that maintains this path deserves high praise. Best ride I have found in WNY for history, scenery and ease!

Cayuga-Seneca Canal Trail

Beautiful and majestic.. thats all i have to say

August, 2020 by bant4517

I parked on the eastern terminus of the trail in Waterloo. It's very beautiful with the canal on my right and the country on my left. The garden halfway through is so beautiful that I can't put it into words. It's a great trail for those who have hybrid trails. There's not many road crossings which makes it a great trail as well. Totally do it again.

Cayuga-Seneca Canal Trail

Great ride..we ride recumbent trikes and had no problem with the width of trail...even in the switchbacks going under the highway into state park.
