Tallahassee-St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail

fabulous Fall bike ride

November, 2021 by mem9622

We went to the south end of the trail to start our ride. We parked right across from the trail head on the Saint Marks river There’s a little parking lot there that is free during the day but not at night. There are a couple cute little restaurants in the town with outdoor seating and it’s fun to just ride around and look at the old Florida way of life. There are also several parks with restrooms along the water going north and a mini bike trail. Once you start off on the trail, you can go all the way to Tallahassee or do any portion. The trail is very well kept with very little buckling or tree route intrusions etc. it’s all a very nice asphalt trail surface. Mostly it’s shady with an occasional sun break. Lots of little Florida houses and old boats and trees to enjoy along the route. It’s pretty straight so you can go fast or slow. We went on a Thursday and there was very little traffic. It’s much less traveled than the north end of the trail but the whole trail is really really nice. We’ve done the north and the south end. It’s worse a bike ride it’s worth a car ride from Tallahassee down to this trail head

Four Freedoms Trail

Nice Area, Trail Has So Much Potential

October, 2021 by tampa.home.office

Rode the trail this weekend from Madison to almost the end before riding dirt and pavement into Georgia, then back to the trail and to Madison.

Area is absolutely beautiful. As mentioned, if interested in adding distance, hardpack dirt is easily accessible from the trail.

I say it has so much potential, as maintenance of trail was disappointing. Nicely paved areas had a good deal of debris from trees, some not visible until you were literally over top of it.

Other areas further north on the trail are plagued by serious roots tearing up the pavement.

I have ridden many trails in Florida, and this was probably the least / worst maintained of all, yet I still enjoyed the ride and the area.

Also, as a note if you're there on Sunday, come prepared. Many things in the area are closed on Sunday. The market in Pinetta BBQ was closed that day and no pizza inside either. Snacks were lunch.

Would love to see it given some love and go back to ride again.

Four Freedoms Trail

poorly maintained

October, 2021 by richardscheetz34

Trees have fallen across the trail and were not revoved by maintenance crews. Private individuals had to remove them. Dogs at the Davis trailer park are an ongoing nuisance thst have troubled numerous cyclists I've met.

I enjoy being able to choose to walk on asphalt or venture off into the forest. Great trail for walking, or biking.

The description fails to mention that the the St. Marks trail also goes north and ends there in Cascade Park, and also connects to Railroad Square and the Gains street area.

Coastal Trail

Nice ride

August, 2021 by sandyrobinson57_tl

We started at the Riverside Cafe in St. Marks on the Tallahassee/St Marks Trail and took a left after 3 miles onto the Coastal trail. We turned at a convenience store just passed the Wakulla High School. The trail was in great condition and provided plenty of shade at various times. But there are parts under the sun too. We started around 10AM and except for a lady in a wheelchair, we never saw another person on the Coastal Trail. There were several convenience stores along the route which we took advantage to refill water bottles. It was a nice day, especially the beer at the Riverside Cafe upon completion.

Coastal Trail

Great and Shaded

May, 2021 by dpettibone

We rode the trail in the late afternoon. We picked the trail up right outside our hotel (Best Western in Crawfordville)It was shaded and cool. In great condition. There are a couple busy streets you have to cross while riding, but all in all a great trail.

Very nice and enjoyable ride. Only suggestion would be to mark it better!

Good trail. Not 15miles

February, 2021 by gibbs20

Clocked 3.3 miles from one end to the other took some side trails on way back. 6.8 total. Granted I didn’t do all of the sides but there is no way this stretches to 15miles. There are also “speed bumps” throughout. Probably some type of drainage solution. They weren’t bad but worth noting

Tallahassee-St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail

Long beautiful shaded Paved trail

November, 2020 by mem9622

Mostly secluded, good canopy of shade, wide trail you can ride two abreast on your bikes, goes all the way down to the Gulf Several nice benches for resting along the way; also restrooms spaced along the trail and several parks, Wakula Springs is a 5 mile detour if you want to go swimming, excellent for mountain bikes or racing bikes
