This trail was a great disappointment. Very poorly maintained. When you get to the part along the river it’s horrendous. You have to be very careful because there are holes and it’s extremely rough. Will never go on the trail again
April 2021: Hadn't been on the trail a couple of years, hoped they had caught up on maintenance. No such luck. Long stretches full of cracks, bumps, sunken spots and washboarding. It was a teeth-rattling experience. Not recommended, esp. for road bikes.
I went here recently and it was a skaters dream the roads are super well taken care of and it’s very scenic, I highly recommend coming here
As mentioned by others this HAS been a great trail.
Currently the trail is in very rough shape due to horse traffic. The type of material used last year to resurface the trail is great for walking and wheeled traffic but is damaged when horses are ridden at a gallop.
Recent attempt to ride resulted in my wife and I leaving the trail and finding a paved road to ride back on rather than endure the constant pounding.
I am trying to contact Vermont Dept of Forest ,Parks, and Rec about this but so far have had no luck getting a response.
I will update this review if new info comes or if the status of the trail surface changes,
Road this entire trail this past week as an out-and-back from Brewster. It's in perfect condition with limited road crossings.
As previous comments noted it's not exactly flat. Signage states you cross the Appalachian Mountains (known as the Taconics in this area)!
In Brewster I parked in Markel Memorial Park which is closer to the southern end than Southeast Town Park. It has a short road hop to an on-ramp to the Trailway.
If you want to take the older section to Connecticut the new Trailway dead ends at Peaceable Hill Rd with steps down to the road. There is an unmarked road section leading to another flight of steps on East Main Street (bypassing an unusable trestle). Note that the trail ends about a mile south of the steps where the trail is being reconstructed (no signs of activity).
Rode my bike from parking lot to about 2.5 miles and then turned around. It is beautiful and a must see. I love that it doesn't allow cars. The views of the mountains are just ridiculous.
DO NOT TRY THIS TRAIL ON THE ALLEY POND SIDE. CLOSED
I do a lot of running and road biking. This trail is great for both. Rolling hill, scenic, great for distant ride/runs. Construction of the trail was completed Fall of 2020. By far my favorite trail in the capital region
Wide trail, very active but nice ride from North Buffalo to the river!
Great asphalt trail. A lot of signage to explain where you are. Numerous benches for rest stops. A nice eatery at the end of trail in Clarence Center.
Well maintained, clean, easy to follow. The scenery was beautiful and peaceful. My dog and I had a wonderful run along a 4 mile stretch of this path and will definitely be back.
